This movie called “Shabnam” (1964) is a hotchpotch of Arabian Nights, Zorro etc. Those days, comedians were trying their luck acting as heroes. Here Mehmood plays the hero, but just like Jagdeep, Mehmood too failed to click as a hero.

Joy Mukherji, Debu Mukherji and Somu Mukherji were brothers and they were from a well connected family. Their father was Shashdhar Mukherji, a big name in Bollywood movie making. Their uncle (chacha) was Subodh Mukherji, the well known movie producer. From their mother’s side, they were connected to Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anup Kumar, who were their mamas.

TV serial makers these days tend to take the title of some old movie and use it as the title of their serials. “Saas bhi kabhi bahu thi”, for instance, was a movie of the same name in 1970. Similarly, “Hare kaanch ki choodiyaan” was a movie of 1967.

O saba kehna mere dildaar ko

I have already posted two songs from “Kaabuliwaala” (1960). This movie was a very moving tale of a Pathan from Afghanistan who lives in Calcutta away from his family, including his young daughter, and he misses her every day. He adores Minnie ( a young girl) in Calcutta and after initial apprehensions, she too takes to him.

In 1960, movie makers were fascinated with the word “Kaala”. We had movies called “Kaala Bazaar” as well as “Kaala Paani”. Some movie maker decided to make a movie called “Kaala Aadmi” too.

Enjoying songs without knowing any details of the song and then forgetting all about that song means that when you recall the song, you have no means to locate that song. You feel helpless. You know about the song, but you do not have enough clues to help you.
