“Naagin” was one of the biggest musical blockbusters of all time. Just about every song of this movie has gone on to become immortal.
Here is a song from this movie that goes “mera dil ye pukaare aaja”. It is sung by Lata and picurised on Vyjyantimala. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and Hemant Kumar is the music director.
Song-Mera dil ye pukaare aaja(Naagin) (1954) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD- Hemant Kumar
Lyrics
Aaja aaja
mera dil ye pukaare aaja
mere gham ke sahaare aaja
bheegaa bheegaa hai samaa aise mein hai tu kahaan
mera dil ye pukaare aaja
mere gham ke sahaare aaja
bheegaa bheegaa hai samaa aise mein hai tu kahaan
mera dil ye pukaare aaja
tu nahin to ye rut ye hawaa kya karoon kyaa karoon
tu nahin to ye rut ye hawaa kya karoon
door tujhse main rahke bataa kya karoon kya karoon
soona soona hai jahaan ab jaaun main kahaan
bas itna mujhe samjha jaa
bheegaa bheegaa hai samaa aise mein hai tu kahaan
mera dil ye pukaare aaja
aandhiyaan wo chalin aashiyaan lut gayaa lut gayaa
aandhiyaan wo chalin aashiyaan lut gayaa
pyaar ka muskuraata jahaan lut gaya lut gaya
ek chhoti si jhalak mere mitne talak
o chaand o chaand mere dikhla jaa
bheegaa bheegaa hai samaa aise mein hai tu kahaan
mera dil ye pukaare aaja
munh chhupa ke meri zindagi ro rahi ro rahi
munh chhupa ke meri zindagi ro rahi
din dhala bhi nahin shaam kyun ho rahi ho rahi
teri duniya se ham leke chale tera gham
dam bhar ke liye to aaja
bheegaa bheegaa hai samaa aise mein hai tu kahaan
mera dil ye pukaare aaja
mere gham ke sahaare aaja
bheegaa bheegaa hai samaa aise mein hai tu kahaan
mera dil ye pukaare aaja

I like this song very much.
And I would think that “man doley mera tan doley” from this movie would have set off the famous Been sound which has become so popular ever since.
Phagun was also full of snake stuff but it was later than Naagin.

I’ve always associated the been sound with snakes–didn’t know or think it was from a movie. Still think the tune comes from snake charmers.
Anyway one of Lata/VJ’s greatest songs so thanks for the words. VJ’s eyebrows are thin here.

Isn’t this movie the one that started the famous Been sound for representing snakes? Or was it Phagun?
