Apni Kahaani Chhod Jaa…Mausam Beeta jaaye

on:“Do Beegha Zameen” (1953) was a critically acclaimed movie. This movie won several prestigious awards, and it in fact swept the inaugural filmfare awards, if I am not mistaken.
I am not much aware of the songs of this movie. So I am pleasantly surprised to realise that this song “mausam beeta jaaye” is from “Do Beegha zameen”. Manna Dey sang this song and Salil Chowdhary composed the music. Shailendra was the lyricist.
Here is this remarkable song from “Do Beegha Zameen”.
Song-Dharti kahe pukaar ke..mausam beeta jaaye (Do Beegha Zameen) (1953) Singers-Manna Dey, Lata, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD- Salil Chowdhary
Lyrics
he he
ganga aur jamuna ki gahri hai dhaar
aage ya peeche sabko jaana hai paar
dharti kahe pukaar ke
beej bichaale pyaar ke
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
apni kahaani chhod jaa
kuchh to nishaani chhod jaa
kaun kahe is or
tu phir aaye naa aaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
teri raah me kaliyon ne naina bichaaye
daali daali koyal kaali tere geet gaaye
tere geet gaaye
apni kahaani chhod jaa
kuchh to nishaani chhod jaa
kaun kahe is or
tu phir aaye na aaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
o bhai re
neela ambar muskaaye
har saans taraane gaaye
haay tera dil kyun murjhaaye
ho
man ki bansi pe
tu bhi koi dhun bajaale bhai
tu bhi muskuraale
man ki bansi pe
tu bhi koi dhun bajaale bhai
tu bhi muskuraale
apni kahaani chhod jaa
kuchh to nishaani chhod jaa
kaun kahe is or
tu phir aaye naa aaye
bhai re
bhai re
(mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye
mausam beeta jaaye)

Atul, I once heard a radio program presented by Balraj Sahni where he talked about how they were filming this song, and some local people thought that fresh mousambis were available, thanks to the words “Mousambi taaja hai …”, which was what “Mausam beeta jaye … ” sounded like! They were asking for the mousambis, and here a film shooting was going on. I still think of it as the mousambi song.

Another song from my childhood memories…,when we use to listen the programme ‘jaimala’ fauji bhaiyon ke liye.. on aakashwani… Different celebrities use to present this programme, and once the famous actor Dharmendra presented the same starting with this song… and since then this beautiful philosophical song has been a source of inspiration and motivation for me…
