Apni maata ke dulaare bachche

Posted on: July 19, 2009

Recently I watched the movie “Sambandh” (1969). I was not expecting much from the movie, since it was a flop movie that few people remember today. I was watching this movie to find out about its songs.

I realised that this movie was a surprisingly well made one. The movie was based on a Bangla story, and the movie was picturised well, albeit the pace of the movie was slow. Characters looked real life, rather than caricatures. It was for the first time that I saw Debu Mukherji and Pradeep Kumar getting meaningful roles, and both were impressive.

This movie was well made but considering that Indian movie audiences were not matured enough to patronise good off beat movies, this movie flopped. It was not the only off beat movie to meet such a fate those days. There were many other movies, viz “Dastak”, “Mera naam Joker”, “Do raaha” etc etc which suffered similar fates.

The music of this movie was outstanding, and I discovered songs that I had never heard before.

This movie has music by O P Nayyar. I have discussed in the past about other music directors giving O P Nayyar kind of music. Here on the other hand, O P Nayyar has given music that is very un O P Nayyar kind. Here in this movie, he worked with a new team with which he had not worked before. In this movie, his lyricist was Pradeep. And he used two voices with whom he had rarely worked- viz Mukesh and Hemant Kumar.

And both these singers delivered in style. Mukesh sang the memorable song-“chal akela chal akela tera mela peeche chhoota raahi chal akela”.

I on the other hand, had never heard the Hemant Kumar songs from this movie. I heard them for the first time while watching this movie, and I was extremely impressed.

Here is a Hemant Kumar song from this movie. It is picturised on Pradeep Kumar. As can be seen from the song, this music is so un O P Nayyar like that it is difficult to associate this song with him. But it is very much his creation, and it is a superb song. And the lyrics by Pradeep are superb. I think Pradeep could have given us some memorable songs, if he had got an opportunity to work with more A grade music directors.

Song- Apni maata ke dulaare bachche (Sambandh) (1969) Singer-Hemant Kumar, Lyrics- Pradeep, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics

apni maata ke dulaare bachche
tujhpe qurbaan main pyaare bachche
tere aansoo main sah nahin saktaa
aisa kyun hai main kah nahin sakta
tere aansoo main sah nahin saktaa
aisa kyun hai main kah nahin sakta
aa mere paas chup kyun baitha hai
aaj se tu hi meraa beta hai

aa mere paas chup kyun baitha hai
aaj se tu hi meraa beta hai
tu mujhe lag raha hai apna saa
mera khoya hua ek sapna saa
mere hathon me de de haath apna
zindagi bhar rahegaa saath apnaa
akele ro nahin veeraane me
koi tera bhi hai zamaane hai
ye mat samajh ke kisi se na tera naata hai
ab to is desh ki maati hi tera maata hain
bhool beete huyi kahaani ko
yoon na barbad kar jawaani ko
zindagi daata ka ehsaan samajh
ise bhagwaan ka vardaan samajh
tujhe jeewan yahaan jeena hoga
har aansoo yahaan peena hoga
apni bigdi ko tu banaa bachche
ek duniya nayi basaa bachhe
apni bigdi ko tu banaa bachche
ek duniya nayi basaa bachhe
apni qismat tu jagaa sakta hai
aag paani me lagaa saktaa hai
zindagi yoon na dubo aahon me
aa jaa ab meri khuli baahon me
tere jeewan me yahi honaa thaa
tere jeewan me yahi honaa thaa
kisi ko paa ke tujhe khonaa thaa
jaane waala to kabhi laut ke na aata hai
ab to is desh ki maati hi teri maata hai
jaane waala to kabhi laut ke na aata hai
ab to is desh ki maati hi teri maata hai
ab to is desh ki maati hi teri maata hai
ab to is desh ki maati hi teri maata hai
