In Bollywood movies, poor hero ( during his childhood) typically would earn his livelihood by acting as a shoeshine boy, whereas his mother would sit on a singer machine and sew clothes to earn her livelihood.
I think this typecasting of professions began in 1950. Those days we even had movies with name like “Boot Polish” and then “Tel Maalish Boot Polish”.
Now, these movies had such pedestrian names but music of these movies was top class. I have already posted a superb song from “Tel Maalish Boot Polish” (1961) which I regard as one of the very best Bollywood songs that I have come across.
Here is another song from “Tel Maalish Boot Polish” (1961). This song in fact is the title song/ theme song/ introduction song of the movie. This song is sung by Mukesh and picturised on Sheikh Mukhtaar. This is a lovely feel good song. It is a song that celebrates an honest way of earning one’s livelihood.
The song is written by Prem Dhawan and its music is composed by Chitragupta.
