Marna teri gali mein

There are a few people who say that “Shabaab” (1954) was one where Naushad gave his best music. I hope the people who hold this opinion are aware that Naushad was the music director of movies like “Baiju Baawra”, Mughal e Azam” etc as well. There are others who feel that “Baiju Baawra” could be the best creation of Naushad.
One thing that I am pretty sure is that this movie “Shabaab” (1954) was clearly inspired from a Sanskrit story called “Rajtarangini” written by Bilhan, a leading Sanskrit scholar of his times.
Here is a song from this movie which is sung by Lata and picturised on Nutan. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist.
PS-It turns out that the song has a Rafi version as well. That makes it a multiple version song.

Song-marna teri gali mein (Shabaab) (1954) Singer- Lata, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad
Lyrics
marna teri gali mein
marna teri gali mein jeenaa teri gali mein
marna teri gali mein jeenaa teri gali mein
marna teri gali
mit jaayegi hamaari duniyaa teri gali mein
duniyaa teri gali mein
marna teri gali
aaye hain tere dar pe ham zindagi lutaane
tu dekhe yaa na dekhe tu jaane yaa na jaane
pooraa karenge ham to waadaa teri gali mein
marna teri gali
dil se teri mohabbat kam umr bhar naa hogi
ham tujhpe mar mitenge tujhko khabar na hogi
marne ke baad hogaa charchaa teri gali mein
marna teri gali
mit jaayegi hamaari duniyaa teri gali mein
duniyaa teri gali mein
marna teri gali
marna teri gali mein jeenaa teri gali mein
marna teri gali
