Jawaan jaaneman haseen dilruba

I like to listen to old songs as is obvious from the songs posted here. But what about the present generation ? They obviously listen to the contemporary music. But it is for people like us to make them aware of the musical treasures of the old movies.
It pleased me a lot when my 12 year old daughter made enquiries about the song “aaja aaja main hoon pyaar teraa”. “What movie is this song from ?” she enquired of her mom. Ever willing to show off my superior knowledge, I told her that the song is from “Teesri Manzil”. Then I played her the song on my computer, hoping to get her aware of old music. I told her about Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh, the actors of this song.
I was even more impressed when she asked me about the movie of “that song which is sung in a boat”. She meant the song “ajeeb daastaan hai ye kahaan shuru kahaan khatm” from “Dil Apna Aur Preet Paraayi” (1963).
She in fact not only asked about the movie, but also the year when these movies and songs were created ! I gave her brief information about these movies, actors etc and also told her that these songs were already there in my blog.
Then she asked me about the song “jawaan jaaneman” and whether this song was also there in my blog. I told her that the song is from “Namak Halaal”(1982) and no, this song was not there in my blog.
You must have this song in your blog, she insisted.
So here is this song, on the farmaish of my daughter. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised on Parveen Babi, Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan. Anjaan is the lyricist and Bappi Lahiri is the music director.
Yes, this is one Bappi Lahiri composition that has remained popular to this date, especially among the younger generation of today.

Lyrics
Hello I want to kill you
I will kill you
jawaan jaan-e-man
haseen dilrubaa
mile to dil jawaan
nisaar ho gayaa
jawaan jaan-e-man
haseen dilrubaa
mile to dil jawaan
nisaar ho gayaa
shikaari khud yahaan
shikaar ho gayaa
ye kyaa sitam huaa
ye kyaa zulam huaa
ye kyaa ghazab huaa
ye kaise kab huaa
na jaanoon main
na jaane wo
aa haa
jawaan jaan-e-man
haseen dilrubaa
mile to dil jawaan
nisaar ho gayaa
aayi aayi
door se dekho dekho
dilrubaa aisi aisi
turu-turu-turu
khaayi bezubaan dil ne
dil ne
chot ye kaisi
arre wo
aa aa mili nazar
are ye
aa aa huaa asar
nazar-nazar mein ye
samaan badal gayaa
chalaayaa teer jo
mujhi pe chal gayaa
ghazab huaa ye kyaa huaa ye kab huaa
na jaanoon main na jaane wo
o ho
jawaan jaan-e-man
haseen dilrubaa
mile to dil jawaan
nisaar ho gayaa
shikaari khud yahaan
shikaar ho gayaa
ye kyaa sitam huaa
ye kyaa zulam huaa
ye kyaa ghazab huaa
ye kaise kab huaa
na jaanoon main na jaane wo
o ho
ha ha ha ha ha ha
dil ye dil ye
pyaar mein kaise kaise
khotaa hai
dekho dekho
aa haa aa haa aa haa aa haa
qaatil qaatil
jaan-e-man kaise kaise
hotaa hai dekho
are wo
haa haa milaa sanam
are ye
haa haa huaa sitam
wo dushman-e-jaanaan
dildaar ho gayaa
sayyaad kaa bulbul
se pyaar ho gayaa
ghazab huaa ye kyaa huaa ye kab huaa
na jaanoon main na jaane wo
aa haa
jawaan jaan-e-man
haseen dilrubaa
mile to dil jawaan
nisaar ho gayaa
shikaari khud yahaan
shikaar ho gayaa
ye kyaa sitam huaa
ye kyaa zulam huaa
ye kyaa ghazab huaa
ye kaise kab huaa
na jaanoon main na jaane wo

What a lovely background to the posting of this song, Atul. It must feel so proud to be passing on the legacy of old songs to a newer generation through your blog. Like I have said before, don’t underestimate the contribution your blog is making in preserving songs that would long have completely disappeared, had it not been for your blog.
