Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Aao jhoomen gaayen

Posted on: June 8, 2010

I have recently created a page in this blog where readers can give their farmaishes for songs. The first farmaish sender is none other than Raja, who was also the first commentor of this blog in distant past (well just under two years ago).

His first farmaish is a song that was extemely popular in its days among kinds like me and Raja. It is just that I was not aware about the details of this song and I forgot all about this song after this movie and its songs ran their course. I am very thankful to Raja to remind me of this song once again.

Thanks to this farmaish, I got to listen to this song again after some 38-39 years or so. To know the details of the song is an icing on the cake.

This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and R D Burman is the music director. This song epitomises the music of R D Burman of those days. It is music like this and singing like this with which R D Burman and Kishore Kumar had captured the imagination of the public. What a magical song it is !

This song is not picturised on certain actors like say the hero and the heroine. This song is a background song. Balraj Sahni, Hema Malini etc are seen in happy frame of mind as their village had seen a good harvest and this song gives expression to their joie de vivre.

“Paraaya Dhan”(1971) is the name of the movie. This movie had Rakesh Roshan and Hema Malini in lead roles. The movie is not remembered much today, but its songs were hugely popular those days. I loved listening to the songs of this movie without being aware of the fact that they were from this movie.

This is the third song of “Paraya Dhan” (1971) that I have rediscovered. I had re discovered the first song of this movie nearly two years back thanks to another farmaish. The song was Aaj unse pahli mulaqat hogi. And guess who had sent that farmaish ? That farmaish was sent by a niece of Raja ! It is a small world, is it not ?

That was quick! 🙂
What a lovely song this is. Pure joie de vivre, like you categorised.
Lovely picturisation, harvest scenes, Hema looking gorgeous.

A lot of people think I am Rafi-crazy but I love all singers’ songs. Kishore, in this period, and to RD’s music was awesome. And Asha Bhonsle does her cute bit too in this song. Very sweet song – I thought you had already posted it but was surprised when I checked. Anyway, better late than never ! 🙂 Thanks, Atul.
