Sun le pukaar aayi aaj tere dwaar…diyaa naa bujhaao mere ghar kaa

Posted on: July 30, 2010

Meena Kumari who played happy roles in 1950s began to play tragic roles in 1960s. And that obviously included singing sad songs as well.

Here is a sad song from “Phool Aur Patthar” (1966). In this song, Meena Kumari prays to the God for the well being of her child who is ill.She also tells God that people will lose fath in Him if he fails her. Such emotional blackmail tends to work in Hindi movies with God and He is forced to act. 😀

This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and Ravi composed the music.

PS-It seems that Meena Kumari sings this song for Dharmendra-her lover, and not for her kid. Well, the lyrics could have been a bit more specific in that case, since “ghar ka diyaa” normally means a child.

Song-Sun le pukaar aayi aaj tere dwaar…diyaa naa bujhaao mere ghar ka (Phool Aur Patthar) (1966) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Ravi

Lyrics

diyaa naa bujhaao mere ghar kaa
meri taqdeer ke maalik

sun le pukaar aayi aaj tere dwaar
leke aansuon ki dhaar mere saanwre
sun le pukaar aayi aaj tere dwaar
leke aansuon ki dhaar mere saanwre
main to ek bheekh maangoon tose phailaa ke haath re
sun le pukaar aayi aaj tere dwaar
leke aansuon ki dhaar mere saanwre

binti karoon main tose jag ke khiwaiyyaa
doob na jaaye meri aashaa ki naiyaa
binti karoon main tose jag ke khiwaiyyaa
doob na jaaye meri aashaa ki naiyaa
kisko dikhaaun jaa ke dard main apnaa
koyi nahin hai meraa Krishna Kanhaiyaa
Krishna Kanhaiyaa
sun le pukaar aayi aaj tere dwaar
leke aansuon ki dhaar mere saanwre

maine Prabhu aaj tak kuchh nahin maangaa
maine Prabhu aaj tak kuchh nahin maangaa
aaj to daan de-de apni dayaa kaa
badle mein chaahe meri jaan bhi le-le
bachaa le sahaaraa daataa is dukhiyaa kaa
is dukhiyaa kaa
sun le pukaar aayi aaj tere dwaar
leke aansuon ki dhaar mere saanwre

toone jo mere dil ki jyoti bujhaayi
o duniyaa waale hogi teri hansaayi
toone jo mere dil ki jyoti bujhaayi
o duniyaa waale hogi teri hansaayi
aisa bhalaayi ka jo badla milegaa
kabhi na mitegi teri jag se buraayi
jag se buraayi
sun le pukaar aayi aaj tere dwaar
leke aansuon ki dhaar mere saanwre

sun le pukaar

I think , Meena kumari prays for her lover , Dhermandra ( not for her child).

Yeah. There are 4 movies I know of where Dharmendra is all bandaged up and we get to hear the laments of some long-suffering poor thing in song (Ishq par zor nahin, Phool aur Patthar, Kartavya (sort of) and Loafer with Om Prakash). The Loafer sick bed song–duniya mein tera– is great with Om Prakash and Dharmendra, two favorites.
