It has been pointed out by my readers that the song “Ramaiyya vasta vaiyya” from “Shree 420” (1955) is missing from the blog. Not just this song, I am sure many great gems of yesteryears are missing from the blog. But I will gradually add all these songs. The fact that so many great songs are still missing from this blog despite the blog boasting of over 2600 songs is an indication that there are far too many great songs that were created during the golden era of Bollywood movie music.

It was in late 1940s and early 1950s that Indian movie music was discovering new sources of inspirations for its songs, apart from classical music. These new sources of inspiration being Indian folk music and western music.

“Banarasi Thug” (1962) was a B grade movie with Manoj Kumar and Vijaya Chaudhary in lead roles. The movie was B grade, but there were so many underemployed talented music directors those days that movie makers had no trouble getting A grade music composed even in B and C grade movies.
