Bachpan ke din bhi kya din thhey

Posted on: September 29, 2010

“Sujata” (1959) had some very nice songs in it that covered various stages of lives, different kinds of feelings etc.

For instance, this movie has one of most well known luallabies of all time, viz. Nanhi kali sone chali hawa dheere aana. Picturisation of this lullaby shows Sulochana singing this lullaby to babies who grow up to become Shashikala and Nutan respectively.

One they grow up, they reminisce about their childhood and sing this song. Like the lullaby, this nostalgic song too had gone on to become an iconic song of its genre.

The song “bachpan ke din bhi kyaa din thhey” is sung by Geeta Dutt (for Shashikala) and Asha Bhonsle (for Nutan). Shashikala sings this song seated on a grand piano, whereas Nutan, who is outdoors, hums. Yes, this is a song where one singer sings and other just hums.

Majrooh Sultanpuri has come up with the simple , but highly effective lyrics. S D Burman composed the music.
