Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Sitamgar sitamgar

Posted on: October 5, 2010

“Magroor” (1950) had eight songs in it, and every one of these songs needs to be here. And I will make sure that I discuss all of them, provided links of all these songs are available.

Here is the sixth song from this movie. It is a love song. Meena Kumari just has a conversation with Jairaj who thanks her. He leaves, but not before calling her a “sitamgar” (tormentor). He leaves, and love blooms in Meena Kumari’s heart. I am not a sitamgar, you are, she declares, and then bursts into this romantic song.

This song is sung by Geeta Roy (later Dutt). Raja Mehdi Ali Khan is the lyricist and Bulo C Rani is the music director. As can be noticed, this movie had many playback singers in it, viz Shamshad Begam, Mrs Vishnilal, Ishu, G M Durrani, Rafi, and now Geeta Dutt. And all of them did some wonderful playback singing in this movie.

This song sounds incredibly romantic to me. The lyrics of Raja Mehdi Ali Khan ensures that. What a combination of Geeta Dutt’s voice, Raja Mehdi Ali Khan’s lyrics and Bulo C Rani’s music. This composition is magical.

So, here is this lovely romantic song from “Magroor” (1950) which is picturised on Meena Kumari.

Song-Sitamgar sitamgar (Magroor) (1950) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

Sitamgar sitamgar
sitamgar sitamgar
sitamgar sitamgar
sitamgar sitamgar
kiyaa waar teri nigaahon ne dil par
kiyaa waar teri nigaahon ne dil par
main kaise kahoon ye sitam wo sitamgar

koi mere dil mein na ab tak samaayaa
koi meri aankhon ko ab tak na bhaayaa
mere man ke mandir mein koi na aayaa
koi na aayaa
tere saamne jhuk gayaa kyun mera sar
main kaise kahoon ye sitam wo sitamgar
kiyaa waar teri nigaahon ne dil par

tere paas aane ko jee chaahte hai
nigaahein milaane ko jee chaahtaa hai
muhabbat jataane ko jee chaahtaa hai
jee chaahtaa hai
na jaane mujhe kyaa huaa tujhse milkar
main kaise kahoon ye sitam wo sitamgar
kiyaa waar teri nigaahon ne dil par

main apni khataaon se sharmaa rahi hoon
judaa hoke tujhse main ghabraa rahi hoon
main dil mein umangon ko tadpaa rahi hoon
main tadpaa rahi hoon
tujhe kyaa milaa mujhko bekal banaa kar
main kaise kahoon ye sitam wo sitamgar
kiyaa waar teri nigaahon ne dil par
sitamgar sitamgar
sitam wo sitamgar
