I have no idea if chana jor, moongphali etc are still sold today on street by vendors. Personally I have not seen such vendors for the past few decades, so chances are, such vendors are on the verge of extinction, if not already extinct.

The golden era of Hindi movie music was enriched not only by the well known music directors, but also by the lesser known names. Many of these lesser known music directors deserved much more recognition and opportunities than what they ultimately ended up with.

I am a big fan of Ravi. He is perhaps the only music director who was around when the golden era of Hindi movie music began to the time this era was finally gone for ever. His career began as a chorus singer in late 1940s,then he became assistant to Hemant Kumar (he was his assistant in “Naagin” (1954)) and then he became an independent music director with “Vachan” (1955). From then on till 1980s, he composed songs, many of which became so popular that they ended up becoming iconic songs. I in fact describe Ravi as a composer of iconic songs.
