Kaise aaye hain din haay andher ke…baithe balmaa hamaare nazar pher ke

Posted on: January 31, 2011

“Nastik” (1954) is a poignant and hard hitting movie about the aftermath of partition and the hypocrisy of organised religion. The effect of this movie is enhanced by the songs of this movie which are truly timeless and iconic.

The movie begins with Ajit fleeing his home in a train with his sister and young brother, with post partition violence raging all over the places. The poignant song, Dekh tere sansaar ki haalat.. Kitna badal gaya insaan plays in the background. Yes, this moving song is from this movie.

Tragedy is a constant companion of Ajit and his siblings. He is thrown into jail, his younger brother dies and his sister is forced into brothel. I have not watched the movie but reading the review of this movie can still move me like it moved Memsaab the reviewer as well as many others who have seen this movie.

Here is a mujra song from this movie, which is indeed picturised on Ajit’s sister who is forced into kotha by the scheming Raj Mehra and Mehmood.

This song is sung by Lata. Pradeep is the lyricist and C Ramchandra is the music director. I have been unable to identify the actress who plays Ajit’s sister Kamla and on whom this song is picturised. I request my knowledgeable readers to help identify her.
PS-Now I know that she is Roopmala. I thank Sudhir for identifying her.

Now that you have identified her, I may need your help to identify her again.Just because I have seen her in this movie is no guarantee that I will remember her face in future as well. 😀
