Mukesh was brought to Bombay (now Mumbai) in late 1930s by Motilal (a distant relative) who had seen him singing a song at Motilal’s sister’s wedding. While at Bombay, Mukesh got the opportunity to act and sing in a movie called “Nirdosh” (1941). This movie also had Nalini Jaiwant.It is interesting to note that Mukesh first acted in movies in 1940s, whereas his grandson (Neil Nitin Mukesh) is acting in movies more than six decades later. “Pyaase Panchhi” (1960) is a rather B grade movie where Mehmood was the hero opposite Ameeta. Going by the fact that Mehmood subsequently made his mark not as a hero but as a comedian, it appears to me that this movie may not have done well at the box office.

“Nayi Raahein” (1959) is an obscure movie that few people today are aware of. This movie had Ashok Kumar and Geeta Bali in lead roles.

Though I am aware of most songs from “Mother India” (1957), I was just not aware about this song from the movie. In fact, I was not aware that Manna Dey had sung a song in this movie.

Most people are aware of the movie called “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1982) which was a Rajshree Productions movie. There was another movie of the same name that was released as far back as in 1948. This movie “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1948) was in fact a bigger budget movie and a mainstream movie unlike “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1982). “Nadiya Ke Paar” (1948) starred Dilip Kumar and Kamini Kaushal and by most indications, it was a commercial success.

By now, most music lovers who are a regular of this blog must have come to the same conclusion about Chitragupta as I have concluded- that he was a grossly underrated and underutilised music director. Most of his music was given in B movies which did not catch the attention of mainstream movie goers. But what music these movies had !

Till a few hours ago,I was not aware of any songs where Madan Mohan used the voice of Hemant Kumar. Not any longer. I have now discoverd a song where Hemant Kumar indeed sings under the music direction of Madan Mohan.
