Dekho chandaa se khelen sitaare

on:Beginning from 1944, Hindi movie industry have produced movies named “Dost” after every ten years. Thus we had movies called “Dost” in 1944, 1954, and 1974. We did not have a “Dost” in 1964, , though we had “Dosti” in 1964.
And all these movies had nice songs in it. The 1944 movie had music by Sajjad Hussain, and the movie of 1974 (and also for “Dosti” in 1964) music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
Here is a song from “Dost” (1954). This song is sung by Madhubala Jhaweri (no relation to actress Madhubala). The song is written by Verma Malik. Music is composed by Hansraj Bahl. It is a nice less known song that is like a breath of fresh air, seing that it is sung by a fresh and different voice.
Song-Dekho chandaa se khelen sitaare (Dost) (1954) Singer-Madhubala Jhaveri, Lyrics-Verma Malik, MD-Hansraj Bahl
Lyrics
dekho chanda se khelen sitaare
haay re koi kaise ye raat guzaare
dekho chanda se khelen sitaare
haay re koi kaise ye raat guzaare
leke dil mein sajan teri yaad re
baithhi aas lagaa ke
?? apna lutaayaa maine aap re
haay nainaa milaa ke
jiyaa bas mein nahin hai hamaare
haay re koi kaise ye raat guzaare
dekho chanda se khelen sitaare
haay re koi kaise ye raat guzaare
nain mere teri raahon pe laage
nain mere teri raahon pe laage
ik baar to aajaa mere saajnaa
meri kismat jaage
dil ro ro ke tujhko pukaare
haay re koi kaise ye raat guzaare
dekho chanda se khelen sitaare
haay re koi kaise ye raat guzaare
mere man mein uthi aisi hook re
ik aag lagaaye
koi beete huye din pyaar ke
haay kaise bhulaaye
kahaan jaaye nazar ki maari
haay re koi kaise ye raat guzaare
dekho chanda se khelen sitaare
haay re koi kaise ye raat guzaare

Atul ji,
This song has given the memories of a very good singer, who,if she wanted, could have remained in recognition for a longer time. However in 1961,she married Raj Chawla and settled for a peaceful, competition free, family life,in Bombay.
Madhubala’s voice was of sharp high pitch, which sounded very sweet in lower notes, but in higher notes(like e.g.3rd Octave),she sounded shrill.
Introduced by Hansraj Bahl in Apni Izzat(1952),Madhubala sang duets with several artists, but her duets with Talat Mehmood became more famous, possibly because of the contrasting voices of both.
She sang from 1952 to 1960,in almost 50 films including Hindi,Marathi and Gujrati films.
Her more famous songs(some),are from Jugnu,Motimahal,Jhanjhar,Dost,Boot Polish,Khaiber,Diwali ki raat etc.
She did many foreign singing tours.
She gave her last public performance(Interview on stage),in Mumbai last year.
