“Footpath” (1953) is a movie that starred Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari. The movie is by and large forgotten by now.
As far as music of this movie is concernbed, music lovers may have listened to a few songs of this movie without bein aware that the songs were from this movie. For instance, songs like Kaisa jaadoo daale re balmaa ne jaane and Shaam e gham ki kasam are from this movie.
Here is a difficult to find song from this movie. This song was apparently not included in the movie and. Only audio of this song is apparently available. This song is sung by Talat Mehmood, Premlata and Ashima Bannerji. Music is composed by Khayyam. Most songs of this movie were written by Khayyam and one song was written by Sardar Jafri. I find Talat Mehmood being credited as lyricist of this song in earthmusic which to my mind doesnot appear correct. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter. For the time being, I assume that Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist of this song.
Song-Thandi pawan chaley (Footpath) (1953) Singers-Talat Mehmood, Premlata, Ashima Bannerji, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Khayyam
Lyrics
thandi pawan chaley
saath chaley
koo koo koyal boley
jiya doley
jiya doley
pawan chaley
pyaare pyaare baal sanwaare
shaam aayi leke nazaare
pyaare pyaare baal sanwaare
shaam aayi leke nazaare
neeley neeley
peeley peeley
neeley neeley
peeley peeley
dekho gagan mein bhi phool khiley
gagan taley
chanda pyaare kare ishaare
haath mein hai dekho kaare
chanda pyaare kare ishaare
haath mein hai dekho kaare
kehdo chunnoo
kehdo munnoo
kehdo chunnoo
kehdo munnoo
raat honey ko hai
ham chaley
pawan chaley
thandi pawan chaley
saanjh dhaley
koo koo koyal boley
jiyaa doley
jiya doley
pawan chaley

Atul ji,
Regarding the lyricist for this movie, the situation is not clear, since the record labels from HMV list both names i.e. Majrooh Sultanpuri and Sardar Jaafri on all records. As per interviews with Khayyaam and Majrooh, all songs except one were penned by Majrooh. The song ‘Sham e gam ki kasam’ was a collaborative effort, jointly created by Majrooh and Sardar Jaafri.
