Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Tadpat beete din rain

Posted on: June 18, 2011

In my daily series of K L Saigal songs, here is a song that I failed to locate on youtube and so I had to upload it myself.

This song is from “Chandidas” (1934). Agha Hashra Kashmiri is the lyricist and R C Boral is the music director. It is one of the first movies of K L Saigal as a playback singer. Only audio of this song is available. I am informed that there were some K L Saigal songs that were not picturised on him. I am not sure if this song is one of them. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

Song-Tadpat beete din rain (Chandidas) (1934) Singer-K L Saigal, Lyrics-Agha Hashra Kashmiri, MD-R C Boral

Lyrics

Tadpat beete din rain
tadpat beete din rain
nit din birha ko raat sataawe
nit din birha ko raat sataawe
kaise aawe mohe chain
tadpat beete din rain

raat kate gin gin ke taare
dhoondhat nainaa saanjh sakhaare
laagat thhes gin gin ke taare
dhoondhat nainaa saanjh sakhaare

madhur madhur bain

Atul ji,

This is getting to be a real treat :). A new KL Saigal song every morning. Thanks for your perseverance and efforts.

The the main players in the film Chandidas are listed as KL Saigal, Uma Shashi, Pahadi Sanyal, Anwari Baai, M Nawab, Parbati Devi etc. Seeing that Saigal saab himself is the lead actor, and that this movie has other songs recorded by Pahadi Sanyal also. IMHO it may be assumed safely that this song is picturized on Saigal saab himself.

Atul ji,
CHANDIDAS was a movie of 1934. The first playback was started by RCB in 1935 with the movie DHOOPCHAON(aka Bhagyarekha). This and the other reason stated by Sudhir ji,as above, should remove any thought of Saigal’s song being filmed on somebody else in Chandidas.
One more thing.CHANDIDAS had a total of 9 songs but usually only 2 songs, namely 1) Premnagar mein basaungi and 2)Tadpat beete din rain are usually available.
It is to your credit,Atul ji, that you have given us a 3rd song also some time back(Dekhat waako hi roop prem ka pujari).
Note: interested readers may see my information on Radio Ceylon(now SLBC),for a recent good news,in my comments on ‘Dekhat waako hi roop prem…’ .dated 18-5-2011.
