Rain gayi ab huaa saweraa

Posted on: July 12, 2011

During old days (1950s to 1980s), a K L Saigal song was played as the last song of the programme “Puraani Filmon ke geet” in the Hindi service of Radio Ceylon (later renamed Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation) broadcast from 7-30 AM to 8-00 AM. But they were under no obligatio to broadcast different K L Saigal songs every day. So the same few songs were constantly recycled in that programme.

Here too, we discuss one K L saigal song daily. But unlike the Radio Ceylon programme, here we discuss a “new” K L Saigal song daily. The K L Saigal songs that we are discussing now a days are rare songs, which I do not remember hearing on Radio Ceylon. In fact, these songs are not there in youtube either.

Here is a lovely K L saigal song from “Bhakt Surdas” (1942). D N Madhok is the lyricist and Gyan Dutt composed the music.

What lovely old style music ! I ran away from this kind of music, regarding it as retro, but I now love to listen to it. I in fact also ran away from K L Saigal songs in my younger days. But now I cannot have enough of such music and such songs. Listening to this song is a divine experience, and it is like going down the memory lane, when songs like this were big rage in India, and rightly so. Such songs are precious gems of our musical heritage and they need to be preserved and showcased. So here is this great song from “Bhakt Surdas” (1942) for the listening pleasure of music lovers.

Song-Rain gayi ab huaa saweraa(Bhakt Surdas) (1942) Singer-K L Saigal, MD-D N Madhok,MD-Gyan Dutt

Lyrics

rain gayi ab huaa saweraa
rain gayi ab huaa saweraa
yaad teri ne gheraa hai
rain gayi ab huaa saweraa
yaad teri ne gheraa hai
rain gayi ab huaa saweraa

tumse nain lagaake saajan
tumse nain lagaake saajan
duniyaa se munh pheraa hai
rain gayi ab huaa saweraa

tum to dil ki dhadkan banke
dil mein aake baith gaye
tum to dil ki dhadkan banke
dil mein aake baith gaye
is ghar ko jo kho baithaa hai
is ghar ko jo kho baithaa hai
us kaa kaun baseraa hai
rain gayi ab huaa saweraa

man ke panchhi soch-samajh len
wo jaadoo ki nagri hai
man ke panchhi soch-samajh len
wo jaadoo ki nagri hai
sambhal sambhal kar ghar aanaa
nazron ne jaal bakheraa hai
rain gayi ab huaa saweraa
yaad teri ne gheraa hai
rain gayi ab huaa saweraa
