Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ae zindagi ke saathhi jaana na zindagi se

This article is written by Sudhir,a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie songs and a regular contributor to this blog.

Starting with Dil Deke Dekho in 1959, Usha Khanna has been active in the Hindi film industry as a music director for more than fifty years now, During the 90s and the first decade, her assignments have been few and far between, but she continues to work. As per current information, the film “Khandala House”, for which she has composed the music, is complete and is awaiting release in 2011.

Ten years after her debut, Usha Khanna was already recognized a talented composer with hits like Dil Deke Dekho (1959), Hum Hindustani (1961), Aao Pyaar Karen (1964), Shabnam (1964), Ek Saperaa Ek Luteraa (1965), Nishan (1965) etc. under her belt. 60s was a busy decade for her, and 1968 saw the release of four films with music composed by her.

Fareb (1968) is a social drama, produced under the banner of Shri Om Productions, Bombay and directed by Jugal Kishore. The movie is regarded as a B/C grade production with the star lineup including Dev Kumar, Faryal, Maruti, Bela Bose, NA Ansari, Heeralal, Rajan Haksar, Kundan, Sushma, besides others. The movie carries seven songs, and Usha Khanna has used as many as nine voices to render them. The list of singers includes Mukesh, Manna Dey, Suman Kalyanpur, Bhupinder, Manhar Udhas (elder brother of Pankaj Udhas), Hemlata, Krishna Kalle, Usha Timothy and Usha Khanna herself.

This song is rendered so very smoothly and softly by Suman Kalyanpur. The lyrics are written by Asad Bhopali. The on screen performance is by Bela Bose and Dev Kumar, with Dev Kumar working on the piano, and Bela Bose keeping herself busy with a string of dress changes as she performs this song. Discounting the on screen visuals, this is a gem of a song that became very popular when it was released. The song used to be a pick of the radio programs and makes grade in selections of Suman Kalyanpur.

Enjoy this nearly forgotten gem of a song from Usha Khanna and Asad Bhopali, so very softly sung by Suman Kalyanpur.

Song-Ae zindagi ke saathi jaanaa na zindagi se (Fareb) (1968) Singer-Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Asad Bhopali, MD-Usha Khanna

Lyrics

ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se
mere saanson mein mehakanaa
mera dil ban ke dhadaknaa
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se

dheemi dheemi aag dehekte gaalon ki
halki halki chhaon sunehre baalon ki
dheemi dheemi aag dehekte gaalon ki
halki halki chhaon sunehre baalon ki
tere liye hai lekin
kehna na tu kisi se
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se

pehle pehle pyaar ne li hai angdaayi
pehli pehli baar mili hai tanhaayi
pehle pehle pyaar ne li hai angdaayi
pehli pehli baar mili hai tanhaayi
ab to galey se lagaa le
sarko na door hi se
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se

dil ki naazuk baat zubaan tak aa pahunchi
badhte badhte baat kahaan tak aa pahunchi
dil ki naazuk baat zubaan tak aa pahunchi
badhte badhte baat kahaan tak aa pahunchi
darti nahin hai mohabbat
duniya ki be-rukhi se
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se
mere saanson mein mehaknaa
mera dil ban ke dhadaknaa
ae zindagi ke saathi
jaanaa na zindagi se
