Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Preet kiye dukh hoye

Posted on: September 3, 2011

“Ratnadeep” (1952) is a movie that was made in Bangla and Hindi both . It was directed by Debaki Bose. This movie had Anuva Gupta, Manju Dey,Abhi Bhattacharya, Pagadi Sanyal, Chhaya Devi Molina etc.

Here is a bhajan from this movie which is sung by Juthika Roy. Though I have read a lot about Juthika Roy, but I had never heard any songs sung by her because she mostly sang non movie songs. Here is a case where she sings in a movie song. What a superb song !

I wonder who has written the nice lyrics. I have been unable to find about the lyricist and I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us about the lyricist.

The music is composed by Robin Bannerji.

PS-As is often the case, our inhouse encyclopaedia Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh has all the information that one needs on this movie. Here is what he has to say about this movie-

RATNADEEP(1952) had music by Robin Chatterjee and the lyricists were Pt.Madur and Mahendra pran. The above song is written by Pt.Madhur.the song is filmed on Manju Dey who plays the role of Bahurani. She is unhappy as her lost and found husband,Bhuvan is following Sanyasi life.(The story states that Bhuvan is actually Gopal, asst.SM of Khusrupur Rly.stn. who is masquarading as Bhuvan-who has actually died and was his look-alike).
Juthika Roy was essentially a Meera bhajan singer, but she has sung few songs in Hindi films also. She got padmashri in 1972.These days she is leading a retired life,at 93 and is living in Calcutta.

Thanks a lot Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh. so now we know that the superb lyrics of this song are written by Pt Madhur and that it is picturised on Manju Dey.

song-Preet kiye dukh hoye (Ratandeep) (1952) Singer-Juthika Roy, Lyrics-Pt Madhur, MD-Robin Chatterji

preet kiye dukh hoye
ye jaane sab koye
ye jaane sab koye
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa
preet kiye dukh hoye
ye jaane sab koye
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa

ghar ka deepak aag lagataa
ghar ka deepak aag lagataa
meethha ?? dard badhaataa

bijli (?) se dar jaanaa kyaa
bijli (?) se dar jaanaa kyaa
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa

chup rehke majboor rahe jo

paas mein aakar door rahe jo
paas mein aakar door rahe jo
aison ko dard bhulaanaa kyaa
aison ko dard bhulaanaa kyaa
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa

jaakar ke jo phir na aaye
jaakar ke jo phir na aaye
Raam kare wo chain na paaye
Raam kare wo chain na paaye
jaane waalon ko bulaanaa kyaa
jaane waalon ko bulaanaa kyaa
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa
preet kiye dukh hoye
ye jaane sab koye
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa
nehaa lagaake pachhtaana kyaa

Atul ji, Arun ji,

The movie Ratnadeep has been recreated by Basu Chatterjee in 1979, with Hema Malini and Girish Karnad as the lead actors.

Sudhir ji,
Yes.Both the movies have the same story.Gopal becomes Madan,Bahurani becomes Shakuntala and Kusurpur becomes Tarapur. The movie was practically the same except few minor changes.
