Tera jalwa nazar mein basaayaa

Posted on: September 22, 2011

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

When the name of the picture is ‘Dara Singh’, one can be one hundred percent sure of two things. One, of course, that Dara Singh is the hero, and secondly, the theme of this film cannot be anything else other than stunt or gangsters or pirates.

But wait, there is one more thing that can be said about this film. Given that this is a film from 1964, whatever may be the grade of the film and the credentials of those who came together to create it, the music of such a film is going to be superb. Definitely. And that is certainly the case.

A B/C grade stunt film produced under the banner of NC Films, directed by Kedar Kapoor, the star line of the film reads as – Dara Singh, Nishi, Jeevan, Tiwari, Tabassum, Mohan Choti, Salim, Naazi, Madhumati, TunTun, Praveen Pal etc. And believe it or not, the acting credits also include the following three names, Hardeet Singh Pehalwaan, Saudagar Singh Pehalwaan, and Seetaram Laxminarayan Pehalwaan Barodawaale. Wow.

In a manner of speaking, I am so glad that the WWF and similar TV programs came when they did (in the 90s). If TV and WWF would have been around in the 60s, they would most certainly have hijacked Dara Singh, and all the Pehalwaans listed above. And there would then be that many pictures less for which music directors of the genre of Hansraj Bahl, Usha Khanna, Dattaram, Bipin Baabul etc. would have missed giving the music. And it would have been that many songs less that we would be discussing on this blog today. Thank You WWF. 😀 😀

Given the list of actors, and one glimpse of this song, one can easily surmise that this film is about a cruel king (or maybe wazir), and palace intrigues. The lady in the song is under some duress, doing a ‘Basanti’ act for Jeevan, who is partly drunk, and there are glimpses of the hero, who is most certainly expected to make an entry and rescue he dainty damsel in distress.

The lyrics of this song are by Prem Dhawan, and the lilting melody has been created by Hansraj Behl. It has a very racy and delightful pace and flow.

Enjoy this wonderful dance-in-the royal-court song.

Song-Tera jalwaa nazar mein basaayaa (Dara Singh the ironman) (1964) Singer-Suman Kalyanpur, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Hansraj Bahl

Lyrics

tera jalwaa nazar mein basaayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega
tera jalwaa nazar mein basaayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega
saaf kehte hain
saaf kehte hain tujh pe dil ayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega
tera jalwaa nazar mein basaayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega

dekha na tujh sa laakhon mein koi
dekha na tujh sa laakhon mein koi
tab hi se phirti hoon main khoi khoi
tab hi se phirti hoon main khoi khoi
hooooo
pyaar tera hai
pyaar tera hai seene se lagaayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega
tera jalwaa nazar mein basaayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega

haaye wo mil ke nazron ka jhuknaa
haaye wo mil ke nazron ka jhuknaa
dil ka dhadaknaa saanson ka rukna
dil ka dhadaknaa saanson ka rukna
hoooo
hosh tab se
hosh tab se hamen to nahin aayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega
tera jalwaa nazar mein basaayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega

tere deewaane tera naam lenge
tere deewaane tera naam lenge
degaa jahaan jo bhi ilzaam lenge
degaa jahaan jo bhi ilzaam lenge
hoooo
hum ne bhi
hum ne bhi jahaan ko thhukraayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega
tera jalwaa nazar mein basaayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega
saaf kehte hain
saaf kehte hain tujh pe dil ayaa
jo bhi hoga dekha jaayega

Sudhir ji,
Dara Singh was my favourite actor( ? ),whose films I never missed in the 60s.Its only after 1970(Mera naam Joker),his films lost charm for me.
DARA SINGH(1964) a N.C.Films’ prodn.,produced by Gulshan Behl and directed by Kedar Kapoor,as you rightly guessed, was a Rajah,Vazir etc type movie.I remember having seen this film.
Darasingh is staying in a jungle with his Mom(Praveen paul),Brother Najuk Singh(Mohan Choti) and sister Lajjo(Tabassum). The janata of the kingdom is ‘ Hairaan’and ‘pareshan’ due to the’ julm’ of Mahamantri(Jeevan) to which the young prince(Salim) is unaware of.The good Vazir(Tiwari) is thrown out but he has planted his daughter Rangili(Madhumati) as a Raj Nartaki to get secret news.Once she is saved byDarasingh in the Jungle, for which Mahamantri starts troubling him.DS and Rangili start loving each other.Once Prince Salim,in disguise of villager Budhiya, meets Lajjo and starts loving her.
Mahamantri, catches him and thinking that he is a lookalike of the Prince takes him to the Kingdom etc etc.
After many fights, one by one, with the 3 Pehelwans you have mentioned above and with a Tiger too for additional thrill,Dara singh kills Mahamantri and all the pairs are joined together happily, free to pose for a Group Photo in the end.

Arun ji,

Thanks once again for the synopsis of the film. (It appears so, Arun ji, that you have seen practically all the films 😀 😀 )

If I am not wrong, the lady dancer in this video clip is Nishi. Given the star cast of this film, my impression would have been that Dara Singh would be paired with Nishi. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Sudhir ji,
Both of us are not wrong.
The Heroine’s name in the film was Madhumati and the actress was NISHI.
Actress Madhumati played the role of Rangili,Madhumati’s(the Heroine’s) friend.Rangili’s mother’s role was done by TunTun.Naazi also is a friend of Madhumati-the Heroine.
Since actress Madhumati and the Heroine’s name also being Madhumati, the slip must have occured.

Thank you Sudhirji and atulji for this song.

I unconditionally love all the songs of Dara Singh movies.
To me the 60`s music is ultimate. The sound of music in this era for me is “intoxicating”(“Bas, uss samay ke gaanon ko sunke nasha sa chha jaata hai”)

Sudhirji, the dancer is indeed Nishi (I love her) and I just need to repeat: Dara Singh Rules Over Everything.

I also guessed her to be Nishi. But my guess was pure fluke, because I know that the dancer was not Madhumati for sure and that Nishi was the leading lady of the movie. In Dara Singh movie, only the leading lady could be privy to Dara Singh’s affections, so it had to be Nishi and no one else. 🙂

Mem Didi,

Yessss, he does. None like him. 🙂

(Salman Khan struts about bare chested these days, but he can’t show a lamp to Dara Singh). 😀
