Koi jal jal marey koi phaansi chadhhe

Posted on: October 6, 2011

“Tamasha” (1952) was a Bombay talkies production. It was directed by Phani Majumdar. The star cast of this movie had Ashok Kumar, Dev Anand, Kishore Kumar, Meena Kumari, Krishnakant, Haroon, Sunalini Devi, Randhir, Kaushalya, S. N. Banerjee, Shivraj, Amit Bose, Bipin Gupta etc.

This movie originally had music by Khemcand Prakash but he died during the time this movie was being picturised. The music direction was then given by Manna Dey. So there is confusion about the real music director for various songs.

Here is a song from “Tamasha” (1952). The female voice is rather unusual to listen to, but according to earthmusic site, the singer is Asha Bhonsle. I am unable to identify the actress on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.
PS-She is Kaushalya. I thank Mr Sadanand Kamath for identifying her.

The fun lyrics are written by Bharat Vyas. It is my guess that music of this song is composed by Manna Dey.

Song- Koi jal jal mare koi phaansi chadhhe (Tamasha) (1952) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Bharat Vyas, MD-Manna Dey

Lyrics

koi jal jal marey
koi phhaansi chadhhe
koi jal jal marey
koi phhaansi chadhhe
kitno ke dilon ko bukhhaar ho gayaa
aaj fazar fazar jab phhaili khabar
ke tera mera mera tera pyaar ho gayaa

chhod ke duniya ke bandhan
do dil hamaare mil gaye
haay
do dil hamaare mil gaye
nazron se nazren do milin
do oonche chaman mein khil gaye
do oonche chaman mein khil gaye
gharwaale naaraz
gussa karta samaaj
gharwaale naaraz
gusaa karta samaaj
dushman ye saara sansaar ho gaya
aaj fazar fazar jab phaili khabar
ke tera mera mera tera pyaar ho gayaa
ho gaya ho gaya
aa haa haa
ho ho ho

ab din hain hamaare
raaten hamaari
jo kuchh bhi apni marzi karo
ho jo kuchh bhi apni marzi karo
office ko jaao chhuthhi le aao
haakim se itni arzi karo
ho
haakim se itni arzi karo
chaahe somwaar ho
chaahe budhwaar ho
chaahe somwaar ho
chaahe budhwaar ho
sab apne liye itwaar ho gayaa
aaj fazar fazar jab phaili khabar
ke tera mera mera tera
pyaar ho gaya
ho gaya ho gaya
aa haa haa
ho ho
ho ho ho
tera mera mera tera pyaar ho gayaa
tera mera mera tera pyaar ho gayaa
koi jal jal marey
koi phhaansi chadhhe
kitno ke dilon ko bukhhaar ho gayaa
aaj fazar fazar jab phaili khabar
ke tera mera mera tera pyaar ho gayaa
ho gayaa

Atul ji,
TAMASHA(1952),a Bombay Talkies movie,in its waning days, was produced by its 2 owners,Ashok Kumar and Savak Vachha. It had not 2 but THREE music Directors.Khemchand Prakash, who died in its making period,Manna Dey and Surya Kumar Pal(S.K.Pal).They composed 1,5 and 2 songs respectively. The above song was by Asha Bhosle composed by Manna Dey.
Rai Bahadur Durlabhchand’s(Bipin Gupta’s) grandson Dilip(Dev Anand) is in love with Nayantara(Kaushalya),a dancer and aspirant movie heroine .Her Mummy(Sunalini Devi) and a flpo director convince Dilip to launch a film company for Nayantara. His grandfather RBDC sees thru the game and bans him from meeting Nayantara, but Dilip bluffs that he loves another college girl.To convince him Dilip and Nayantara bring Kanchan(Meenakumari) as his lover,by paying her 500 rupees.RBDC recognises Kiron as his friend’s daughter and keeps her in the house by pretending Heart attack.Nayantara, who actually loves actor Ashok Kumar(Ashok Kumar) and her mummy blackmail Dilip for marriage, when they see that Dilip starts loving Kiron now.
The complicated story is simplified in another 4-5-reels when the good prevails over bad and Hero-Heroine are happy with the end result. The cunning grandfather is the happiest for the success of his plans.
