Jo waqt pe kaam aa jaaye

Posted on: October 28, 2011

“Farishta”(1958) is a Pancholi Productions movie which was directed by Ravindra Dave. The star cast of this movie included names like Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari, Sohrab Modi, Mubarak, Nana Palsikar, Anita Guha, Murad, Mehmood , Sheikh, Mridula etc.

Here is a song from this movie, which is in fact the first song from this movie in this blog. This is a wonderful car song cum teasing song. Girls (led by Meena Kumari) are riding in a “posh” convertible-the generic name for such cars in India those days was “Impala”, whereas boys (led by Ashok Kumar) are riding in their beatup car- the generic name for such cars was, and still is “khataara”.

It is a lovely song with wonderfully funny lyrics. Ashok Kumar opines, from his khataara that a reliable vehicle, however beat up it may look is better than an upmarket looking , but unreliable vehicle. Meena Kumari’s response is that such talk is nothing but his desperate attempt to try to find a topic to talk to girls. Ashok Kumar naturally denies such charges and states that he was only stating the facts. Meena Kumari expresses her low opinion about the intentions of the male of the species.

Jus as the listeners are warming up to some more interesting “nok jhonk” between the genders, the song ends up abruptly and the listener is left high and dry.Certainly there must be more ! Perhaps the audio version will have more ! I searched desperately but I find that the video version, as well the audio versions that are available all end up abruptly, and the next thing we know is that the girls’ car has developed a flat tyre, as if on cue. 🙂

This wonderful duet song is written by Qamar Jalalabadi. Rafi and Asha Bhonsle sing this duet alongwith chorus. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

This song, incidentally, is the 700th song of Asha Bhonsle in this blog. Indeed, it is only a matter of time before she becomes the third playback singer to reach four figures in this blog.

Song-Jo waqt pe kaam aa jaaye (Farishta) (1958) singer-Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Qamar Jalalabadi, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

Jo waqt pe kaam aa jaaye
aji wahi sahaara achcha hai
gar buraa na maano arz karun
motor se khataara achcha hai
ham se baatein kar ne ko
motor ka sahaara achcha hai
jahaan ladki dekhi phisal gaye
yeh shauq tumhaara achcha hai

jo waqt pe kaam aa jaaye

aAji ham to karte hain sewaa
sewaa ka milta hai mewaa
aa aaaa
aji ham to karte hain sewaa
sewaa ka milta hai mewaa
kuch aur samajh baithhi ho tum
qismat ka sitaara achcha hai
hoy
ham se baatein karne ko
motor ka sahaara achcha hai

jahaan ladki dekhi phisal gaye
yeh shauq tumhaara achcha hai

jo waqt pe kaam aa jaaye

yeh mard khushaamad kartey hain
aurat ka chamcha bantey hain

aa aaaaa
yeh mardkhushaamad kartey hain
aurat kachamcha bantey hain
chhakda aagey motor peechhey
Waah waah yeh nazaara achcha hai

hoy
ham se baatein kar ne ko
motor ka sahaara achcha hai

jahaan ladki dekhi phisal gaye
yeh shauq tumhaara achcha hai

jo waqt pe kaam aa jaaye

mardon ke bina madam pyaari
chalti nahin aurat ki gaadi
aa aaaaa
mardon ke bina madam pyaari
chalti nahin aurat ki gaadi
ek haath se taali bajti nahin

Ah, what an absolutely delightful song! It is so good to see Meena Kumar in this type of fun song. And I was happy to see Bela Bose too as one of Meena’s sahelis.

Thanks, Atul, for posting this today. Just the type of song on a Friday to continue the Diwali, moving into the weekend, mood. 🙂

And LOL at the Impala / khataara comment. I remember how much we used to be in awe of Impala as the “ultimate” car. 🙂

And congrats to Asha Bhosle for getting to 700. Yes, I think 1000 is very much on the cards for her too.
