Dheere chalaao zaraa

on:“Aas Ka Panchhi” (1961) is va Filmyug Presentation. The movie was directed by Mohan Kumar. Starcast of the movie had names like Rajendra Kumar, Vyjyantimala, Leela Chitnis, Shaminder, Raj Mehra, Nazir Hussain, Shivraj, Mumtaz Begum, Sunder etc in it.
I have discussed as many as four songs from this movie in the past.
Here is a duet song from this movie. This song is sung by Lata and Subir Sen. The song is picturised as a car song on Vyjyanti Mala and Rajendra Kumar. Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
In the song, the lady urges the gentleman to drive slowly as the two of them are “anaadi” on the vehicle of fate and the path is new for them. The gentleman is getting impatient. How long do you want me to drive cautiously, he asks.
So this song likens life to a gaadi where one needs to drive cautiously. Indeed life is a gaadi and one needs to drive cautiously. But one also needs to ensure that the wheels of the gaadi are of the same size. :)Hopefully this factor is already taken care of in this movie, I am sure. But if that is the case then why do the two people on the gaadi of fate never seem to agree when it comes to the optimunm speed of the gaadi ? May be our knowledgeable readers can throw more light on this matter. 🙂

Song-Dheere chalaao zaraa (Aas Ka Panchhi) (1961) Singer-Lata, Subir Sen, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
dheere chalaao zaraa
haay
dheere chalaao zaraa
muqaddar ki gaadi pe ham do anaadi
ye hai nayaa raastaa
dheere kahaan tak chalen
haay
dheere kahaan tak chalen
jo bekhauf chalten hain jeewan safar mein
unko milaa raastaa
dheere chalaao zaraa
haay
dheere chalaao zaraa
hawaaon mein udaake
hamen tum churaake
kahaan le chale ho
bataao to bhalaa
jahaan ek ham ho
jahaan ek tum ho
jahaan kabhi na aaye koi doosraa
dheere chalaao zaraa
haay
dheere chalaao zaraa
muqaddar ki gaadi pe ham do anaadi
ye hai nayaa raastaa
dheere kahaan tak chalen
haay haay
dheere kahaan tak chalen
ye jhoomta nazaaraa
safar pyaaraa pyaaraa
hai mausam ka ishaaraa
yahaan na ruknaa
jahaan bhi tu kahegaa
jahaan bhi le chalega
chaloongi sang tere
o mere sajnaa
dheere kahaan tak chalen
haay haay
dheere kahaan tak chalen
jo bekhauf chalte hain jeewan safar mein
unko milaa raastaa
dheere chalaao zaraa
haay
dheere chalaao zaraa
muqaddar ki gaadi pe ham do anaadi
ye hai nayaa raastaa
dheere kahaan tak chalen
haay haay
dheere kahaan tak chalen
jo bekhauf chalte hain jeewan safar mein
unko milaa raastaa
dheere chalaao zaraa
haay
dheere kahaan tak chalen
haay haay
dheere chalaao zaraa
haay

dheere chalaao zaraa
muqaddar ki gaadi pe ham do anaadi
ye hai nayaa raastaa
Pray drive slowly
We two are novices in this vehicle of life and destiny
The pathways are unknown and new
dheere kahaan tak chalen
jo bekhauf chalten hain jeewan safar mein
unko milaa raastaa
Pray why to drive slow
Those who steer without fear in this journey of life
Are the ones who find new pathways
hawaaon mein udaake, hamen tum churaake
kahaan le chale ho, bataao to bhalaa
Whirling through the winds, stealing me away
Pray tell me, where are we headed
jahaan ek ham ho, jahaan ek tum ho
jahaan kabhi na aaye koi doosraa
(Heading to) a place where it will be just you and me
A place where no one else will ever be
ye jhoomta nazaaraa, safar pyaaraa pyaaraa
hai mausam ka ishaaraa, yahaan na ruknaa
These swinging vistas, this delightful journey
And this pleasant and friendly ambience signals
Do not pause here
jahaan bhi tu kahegaa, jahaan bhi le chalega
chaloongi sang tere, o mere sajnaa
O the love of my heart
I will follow your bidding,
Wherever you will take me
I will come along with you

Atul ji,
You have not only made my day but also made my memories of the college days alive again.
This film was perticularly my favourite because Rajendra Kumar is shown as an NCC cadet in this film, while he is in the college.During this period,I was already in my final college days, where I was a Senior Under officer in the NCC,having won the ‘C’ certificate.
Those were the days when NCC was optional and not compulsory(like later days). So,only students who were genuinely interested in disciplined or Army life used to join the tough NCC.
This film was very popular among the NCC cadets and the song’ Dil mera ek aas ka panchhi ‘ was a special favourite, since Rajendrakumar sings it in the Uniform of NCC.
Most NCC cadets identified themselves with Rajendra Kumar’s role, especially when he falls in love with his commandent’s daughter.
Those were the days………

Deshmukhji, let me also tell you something about Rajendrakumar.I am originally from Kampala-Uganda.Rajendrakumar was very famous there specially ladies used to love him.He also had some relations there, and he used to visit them often. We used to skip the classes just to see him and the ladies not teenagers but elderly and middle aged women used to go crazy. He was a real old time hero.

Pravin ji,
I am glad you liked Subir Sen,like me.
Subir sen completed 75 years in 2009 and is living happily in Calcutta-sorry, Kolkata, these days.
Called an involuntary Hemant kumar clone,he was called to Bombay by Guru Dutt.He has sung over 400 songs in Bengali and Hindi together.
He had made a gust appearance in the film ANUBHAV to sing a Tagore song.
He composed music for a film ‘MIDNIGHT’,produced and released in England in 1970,in which Rafi,Asha,Geeta and Subir had sung songs.
Many times it was difficult to distinguish between the voice of Subir sen,Hemant kumar and Dwijen Mukherji(Maya-61).
