Neend churaaye chain churaaye daaka daale teri bansi

Posted on: November 29, 2011

“Anuraag” (1972) is a movie which was produced and directed by Shakti Samanta. The star cast included names like Ashok Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Mehra, Moushmi Chatterjee, Nutan, Satyajit, Madan Puri, Nazir Hussain, Satyen Kappu, Asit Sen, Abhi Bhattacharya etc.

The movie had some superb songs in it, which people loved to listen to without even being aware of their details. Personally I was hardly aware that this song was from “Anuraag” (1972).

Here is this nice song from “Anuraag” (1972). It is sung by Lata. It is lip synced by Mausami Chatterji who plays a visually impaired (called blind those days with customary lack of political correctness) person in this movie, and watched on sympathetically by Vinod Mehra, Ashok Kumar, Master Satyajeet, Anita Guha and Nutan.

The song is written by Anand Bakshi. Music is composed by S D Burman.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Song-Neend churaaye chain churaaye daakaa daale teri bansi (Anuraag)(1972) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

Neend churaaye,
chain churaaye
daakaa daale teri bansi
neend churaaye,
chain churaaye
daakaa daale teri bansi
arrey din dahaade
Are din dahaade, chori karein
Raat bhar jagaaye daakaa daale teri bansi
Ho neend churaaye chain churaaye
Daakaa daale teri bansi

man mein lage aise agan
jaise chamke bijuriya baadal mein
man mein lage aise agan
jaise chamke bijuriya baadal mein
chhupke kabhi le jaaoongi
teri bansi chupaake aanchal mein
kaahe shaam dhale
kaahe shaam dhale
kadam tale,
mujhko bulaaye
daakaa daale teri bansi
neend churaaye
chain churaaye
daakaa daale teri bansi

samjhi thhi main
natkhat hai tu
bas maakhan churaaya karta hai
samjhi thi main
natkhat hai tu
bas maakhan churaaya karta hai
deewaani main naa jaani tu
kaahe panghat pe aayaa karta hai
mohe laaj aaye
mohe laaj aaye,
haaye nahin baat kahee jaaye
daakaa daale teri bansi
neend churaaye
chain churaaye
daakaa daale teri bansi

bansi ki dhun sunke piya
jiya mera kahin kho jaata hai
bansi ki dhun sunke piya
jiya mera kahin kho jaata hai
main kya kahoon,
kya na khoon
mohe na jaane kya ho jaata hai
geet preet bhare
geet preet bahre gaaye
sudhbudh bisraaye
daakaa daale teri bansi
neend churaaye
chain churaaye
daakaa daale teri bansi
arrey din dahaade chori karein
raat bhar jagaaye
daakaa daale teri bansi
ho daaka daale

oh it used to be my absolute favourite those days. and now i consider it more a bhajan dedicated to Lord Krishna, and keep humming it round the house.
didn’t know that this song was not yet here.
thank you Prakashchandraji for sending it to Atul

now there are 2 more songs left in this movie
1) Ram kare babua hamar phulwa ko hamri umar lagi jaye- my dadaji loved Rajesh Khanna in this, specially the way he says “buyu buyu”

2) the lori which Nutan sings—- Mera Raja Beta Bhuje Ek Paheli
there is a happy as well as sad version to this. here is the link

prakashchandraji have u already sent lyrics for these songs to Atul?
actually Rajesh Khanna is only a special appearance in this

S D Burman used the tune for this song from his own non-filmy Bengali song beautifully sung by himself. Audio link : http://youtu.be/JJCuDwHsOXQ

hello Mr.Kamath
thanks for the link of the bengali version. if there are any bengali knowledgeable atulites then we should be able to get the meaning of the bengali version too bcoz i ve this limited understanding of the language by which i feel that the bengali words mean the same as the hindi one.
whatever it is both the songs are wonderful

I too have the same problem but most of the Bengali songs and that too sung by S D Burman is so melodious that they even out my lack of understanding of the lyrics 🙂
