24th december is a red letter day for Hindi movie music lovers. It was on this day in 1924 that Mohammad Rafi was born. We in this blog do not wait for this day to remember him, of course. This blog is 1260 days old and we have 1287 Rafi songs so far in this blog, which means that we in this blog remember him everyday by discussing on an average one Rafi song daily.
24th december being an important day for music lovers, we will obviously discuss more than one Rafi songs today. In fact all our songs today will be Rafi songs.
The lyrics of this song was sent to me by Mr Sadanand Kamath well in advance. In his view, this song is a special one that is identified more with Rafi than with music director, lyricist or with the actor on which the song is picturised. This song is from “Dillagi” (1949). As many as eight songs from this movie have already been discussed and this song had somehow escaped discussion. Not any longer.
It was through the songs of this movie in general and the two solo songs in particular (the other solo song being Tere koochhe mein armaanon ki duniyaa leke aaya hoon (Dillagi) ), that the long collaboration of Rafi and Naushad was forged which lasted lifelong.
“I may say in one line about this song – simple rendering, simple lyrics, simple orchestration and the end result is outstanding.”-this is the verdict of Mr Sadanand Kamath about this song. And we all agree whole heartedly.
