Saathhi re tujh bin jiyaa udaas re

on:It happens quite often in this blog that when a song is discussed, readers exclaim- “what ! How come this song was not discussed as yet !”. My explanation is that there have been tens of thousands of great songs in Hindi movies, and we have discussed just a small portion of that huge collection of songs, so omission of many great songs should come as no surprise. Hopefully the number of omitted songs will gradually come down as we add more and more of such songs.
Here is yet another of “what ! How come…” song. 🙂 This song is from “Poonam Ki Raat” (1965). This is a haunting song sung by Lata and the picturisation shows a female dressed in white in a distance and Manoj Kumar looking on, suitably stunned.
Such bhootiya songs always shows a female bhoot dressed in a sparkling white sari. I suppose being dressed in black, or may be being dressed in some other dress (salwar-kurta or ghaghra-choli, or skirt-blouse) does not befit a female bhoot in Hindi movies.
Coming to the song, I have heard this song quite a few times in the past, but all that while I was blissfully unaware of the details of this song. I have become aware of the details of this song only after the lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm. Now I know that this song is from “Poonam Ki Raat” (1965) and that this song is written by Shailendra and its music is composed by Salil Chaudhary.
Here is this lovely “pyaasi aatma” song from “Poonam Ki Raat”, and with this we have added one more memorable song to this blog and thus the chances of a reader going “What, how come..” is reduced ever so slightly. 🙂

Thanks Nahmji for finding this lost song from our log. I have a “Haunting Melody of Lata” CD and this song is in it. My kids, when they were little, could feel this bhootiya song just because of the music and the voice. (Bhoot was a word from their limited hindi dictionary at that age, as I used to use it very often. No need to clarify for whom 😆 )

Ha ha..there are still some “what..how come..” songs out there. Thankfully. That is the richness of Hindi film music of the last 70 years.:-)

This song has the tune of ‘Baagh mein kal khili” from Chaand aur Suraj (1965) as interlude music.
