Raat rangeelee chamken taarey
Posted February 14, 2012
on:Today (14th february) is the birth anniversary of Jaan Nisaar Akhtar. On this occasion, we have discussed quite a few songs penned by him. In this series, here is another lovely song written by him.
This song is from “Baap Re Baap” (1955). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. I am not very good in identifying old time actresses no matter how many times I may have seen them, so I am unable to tell whether the actress is Chamd Usmani or Smriti Biswas. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her. Identifying Kishore Kumar as the other actor in the picturisation is the easy part though.
PS-She is Chand Usmani. I thank Mani Menon for helping identify her.
O P Nayyar is the music director.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)
ho
raat rangeeli
chamken taare
aaja sajanwa
prem duwaare
raat rangeeli
chamken taare
aaja sajanwa
prem duwaare
raat rangeeli hoye
mere man mein aaja
ek pyaar ki duniyaa banke sajna
mere nain samaaja
khwaab sunahra banke sajna
laagi tose preet
gaaoon main geet
laagi tose preet
gaaoon main geet
mere man ke meet aaja
ho
raat rangeeli
chamken taare
aaja sajanwa
prem duwaare
raat rangeeli hoye
chale mast pawan
ek nasha sa chhaye
sajna sajna
meri ankhiyan
phir bhi neend na aaye
sajna sajna
nahin beete rain
tarsen yeh nain
nahin beete rain
tarsen yeh nain
mera banke chain aaya
ho
raat rangeeli
chamken taare
aaja sajanwa
prem duwaare
raat rangeeli hoye
mera machle jiya
ek baat na meri maane sajana
mere dil ki batiyaan
haaye koi kya jaane sajana
galey baiyaan daar
man doongi haar
galey baiyaan daar
man doongi haar
mera tu singaar aaja
ho
raat rangeeli
chamken taare
aaja sajanwa
prem duwaare
raat rangeeli
chamken taare
aaja sajanwa
prem duwaare
raat rangeeli

She is Chand Usmani. She was the heroine of this comedy. The best known song is the breezy, foot tapping “Piya piya piya mera jiya pukare, hum bhi chalenge sayyan sang tumhare…” by Asha Bhosale and Kishore Kumar!
