Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

O beta jee

Posted on: March 3, 2012

I have commented in the past that Hindi movie songs are mostly based on topics that are of interest to Indians. But often there are day to day activities that have sadly gone underrepresented in Hindi movie songs.

For instance, kitchen, which is an integral part of every household has led to very few songs in Hindi movies. And the few songs that are there are often used to create humour.

Here is one of the better known kitchen songs from Hindi moviers. This song from “Albela” (1951) is in fact a utensil song. Bhagwan dada, playing the lead role, aspires to be a hero but ends up doing the dishes. And like a true blue Hindi movie hero, he uses this opportunity to sing a song.

This song is quite a lively and lovely song to listen to. C Ramchandra, the music director gave playback for Bhagwan in this movie and did a great job. Here he sings for Bhagwan. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist.

C Ramchandra, better known as a music director has sung over one hundred songs in Hindi movies. This blog has at present 32 songs sung by him (including this one). This is in addition to over 100 C Ramchandra songs as a music director in this blog. I eagerly look forward to the day when this blog will have 100 C Ramchandra song as a singer too.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by another debutant lyrics contributor, viz Sheetal. Thanks for reminding me of this song, Sheetal, and welcome to our musical bandwagon.

Song-O betaa jee (Albela)(1951) Singer-C Ramchandra, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics(Provided by Sheetal)

kabhi kaali ratiyaan,
kabhi din suhaane
kismat ki baaten to
kismat hi jaane

o beta jee,
o beta jee,
arre o baabu jee,
kismat ki hawa kabhi naram,
kabhi garam
kabhi naram-naram,
kabhi garam-garam,
kabhi naram-garam naram-garam
o beta jee
kismat ki hawa kabhi naram,
kabhi garam
kabhi naram-naram,
kabhi garam-garam,
kabhi naram-garam naram-garam
o beta ji

badee akad se beta nikle
ghar se actor hone
waah ri kismat,
waah ri kismat,
kismat mein thhey likhe bartan dhone
are bhai likhe bartan dhone
o beta jee,
jeene ka maza kabhi naram,
kabhi garam
kabhi naram-naram,
kabhi garam-garam,
kabhi naram-garam naram-garam
o beta ji
arre o baabu jee,
kismat ki hawa kabhi naram,
kabhi garam
kabhi naram-naram,
kabhi garam-garam,
kabhi naram-garam naram-garam
o beta ji

duniya ke is chidiya ghar mein
tarah tarah ka jalwa
mile kisi ko sookhi rotee,
kisi ko poori halwa
arre bhai kisi ko poori halwa
o beta jee,
khichdi ka maza kabhi naram,
kabhi garam
kabhi naram-naram,
kabhi garam-garam,
kabhi naram-garam naram-garam
o beta ji
arre o baabu jee,
kismat ki hawa kabhi naram,
kabhi garam
kabhi naram-naram,
kabhi garam-garam,
kabhi naram-garam naram-garam
o beta ji

dard diya to thhoda thhodaa,
khushi bhi thhodi thhodi
waah re maalik,
waah re maalik,
duhkh aur sukh ki khoob banaayi jodi
arre waah khoob banaayi jodi
o beta jee,
jeewan ka nasha kabhi garam,
kabhi naram
kabhi naram-naram,
kabhi garam-garam,
kabhi naram-garam naram-garam
o beta ji
arre o baabu jee,
kismat ki hawa kabhi naram,
kabhi garam
kabhi naram-naram,
kabhi garam-garam,
kabhi naram-garam naram-garam
o beta ji

Nice once. A couple of other kitchen songs I remember (not including the SRK song from Duplicate) – and not yet posted (hint, hint!) – are:
Sunil Dutt – Saroja Devi (Beti-Bete)

Sanjay Khan – Raakhee (Wafaa)

Very nice song, one of the Golden songs of the Golden era.

Thanks for the write up! 🙂 Enjoyed it! 🙂
