Duniya o duniya tera jawaab nahin

Posted on: July 21, 2012

Today (21 july) is the birthday of Anand Bakshi (21 july 1920-30 march 2002). He was one of the most prolific lyricists in the annals of Hindi movie music. This blog has 466 songs written by him. The most prolific decade for Anand Bakshi was the decade of 1970s, which was also the decade that I grew up in.

On this occasion, I have lots and lots of songs to chose from.I will try and discuss a few Anand Bakshi songs today.

“Naya Zamana” (1971) was based on a novel of the same name by Gulshan Nanda. The movie was produced and directed by Pramod Chakravarty. It had Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Pran, Aruna Irani, Dhumal, Shabnam, Manmohan, Indrani Mukherjee, Guddy, Roopali, Jankidas, Kanu Roy, V. Gopal, Lalita Pawar, Mehmood etc in it.

This song is sung by Kishore Kumar. It is picturised as a get together song, where Dharmendra, a worker in Hema Malini’s father’s factory, sings this song, mainly for the benefit of the “Haves”, viz Pran, Hema Malini etc. And true to the traditions of Hindi movie songs, the listeners do not interrupt, even though it is obvious that they do not subscribe to the views of the lip syncer. 🙂

PS-Now that the situation of the song has been explained to me by Peevesie’s mom, I can understand what is going on. Dharmendra writes a book, and Pran promised to get it published. But when the book is published, it carries the name of Pran as the author and Dharmendra is left high and dry. With Pran, what does one expect ? Dharmendra should have known better; 🙂

S D Burman is the music director.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Song-Duniya o duniya tera jawaab nahin (Naya Zamaana)(1971) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)

duniya o duniya
tera jawaab nahin
duniya o duniya
teri jafaaon ka bas
koi hisaab nahin
duniya o duniya
tera jawaab nahin
duniya o duniya

tu chhaaon hai ya hai
dhoop khabar kisko
kya hai tera asli
roop khabar kisko
tu chhaaon hai ya hai
dhoop khabar kisko
kya hai tera asli
roop khabar kisko
aaye nazar kaise tu
aansoo hai khwaab nahin
duniya o duniya
tera jawaab nahin
duniya o duniya

teri zubaan pe hai
zikr sitaaron ka
tere labon pe hai
naam bahaaron ka
teri zubaan pe hai
zikr sitaaron ka
tere labon pe hai
naam bahaaron ka
par tere daaman mein
kaante hai gulaab nahin
duniya o duniya
tera jawaab nahin
duniya o duniya

ye kin khayaalon mein
kho gaye hain aap
haan
ye kin khayaalon mein
kho gaye hain aap
kyun kuchh pareshan se
ho gaye hain aap
ye kin khayalon mein
kho gaye hain aap
kyun kuchh pareshan se
ho gaye hain aap
aap se to mujh ko
kuchh shikwa janaab nahin
duniya o duniya
tera jawaab nahin
teri jafaaon ka bas
koi hisaab nahin
duniya o duniya

hey atul
how will u feel if someone takes the credit for all the hard work u put in. one need not be rewarded at least a word of thanks is sufficient at times. that is the situation for this song
we can c Dharamendra carrying a folder through the song. that is the manuscript of his book which the rich Pran has got published under his own name. after promising Dharam the stars & the sky. so we can see Dharam singing this song with his (famous) flaring with anger nose.

Atulji- Probably just a typo, 1950 instead of 1920, since I’m sure u already know Bakshi Saab joined Indian Navy towards the end of world war II.
