This blog is chugging along nicely and it is touching new milestones at regular intervals. Today, with this post, we arrive at yet another milestone.
This post is the 6400th song of this blog. On this occasion, I have chosen a song from “Mere Apne” (1971). The song is sung by Kishore Kumar and Mukesh. It is picturised on several actors viz. Vinod Khanna, Danny, Dinesh Thakur, Paintal etc. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the others visible in the picturisation.
Gulzar is the lyricist and music is composed by Salil Chaudhary.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah. And this happens to be his 100th lyrics contribution to be posted in this blog. He is the fifth lyrics contributor to record 100 songs in this blog. This is a confirmation of my oft repeated observation that this blog is by now a collaboration of like minded music lovers, who are contributing to create a musical repertoire that will hopefully serve as a valuable sourse of authentic information for music lovers.
I take this opportunity to thank all the visitors and well wishers of this blog whose continued support and encouragement has seen the blog through to this position. And here is hoping that this musical bandwagon will continue to reach newer milestones and we will continue to scale newer heights with the passage of time.

The lyrics of this song have typical Gulzar stamp – conveying serious things in a lighter mode and that too in most commonly used words . There is sarcasm in every stanza of the song.
I always felt that whenever Kishore Kumar had sung with one or more other male singers, it was his voice which predominated the song. This song is an exception. It is Mukesh who has dominated with his voice lock, stock and barrel.
Congratulations Atul for the 64th century of the blog and to Nitin for his maiden century.

I totally agree with you about active participation of fellow travellers on this Musical Yatra.
I am sure that in the Internet history this blog must be a RECORD for so many songs,with related info,lyrics and translations.No less than a reference point for the students of Hindi Film Music.

That is a very interesting observation. I did not notice this coincidence that the post number was 102 and 802 respectively for Nitin Shah and the blog respectively.
10 lakh hits is quite far off though, unless the blog begins to get more number of visitors. 🙂

just heard from my sis in mumbai that Dinesh Thakur who featured in this song (think this was his debut movie) passed away yesterday of kidney failure. seems it was there in today’s mumbai mirror. but i did not c it in TOI bangalore edition

@ Shah Saheb – thanks for this Gulzars evergreen sarcastic gem. It is still relevant. i like this song very much and it took me years to get its audio for my collection. Very meaningful and visionary song because years after this the social scenario in our country remains the same.Unemployment on the rise and inflation running high, and ‘maut ka tamaasha’ chalaa hai betahaasha -still going- “jeene ki phursat nahi hai yahaan” – the common man in mess as always and an ideal condition for the politicians to have their game successful and the other beneficiary’s the anti- socials, because ‘aam aadmi’ can not take time to fight after ‘din bahr ki majoori’.The country runs like this and that’s why – aap ki dua se baaki theek thaak hai
@ Peevesie – i agree with you that the “lagta hai woh bhi MA kiya” needs correction. it is ‘ainvayi’ which is a Punjabi word meaning ‘aise hi’ and translation would be ‘Just Like That’ .
