“Yaasmeen” (1955) was a Musical pictures Production. The movie was directed by A R Kardar. The movie had Suresh, Vyjyantimala, Jayant, Shyam Kumar, S. N. Banerjee, Maruti, Rashid Khan etc in it.

A brief synopsis of the movie, as given by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh in the past givs us an idea of the story line:

YASMIN-55 story was set in Middle east like many such films in this period. In Persia there used to live a rich Sheikh (Jayant) with his wife Zubeida(Mumtaz) and son Ahmed(Suresh).

Zubeida warns the Sheikh that Ahmed is spending too much time with ladies of the Harem and should be put to work. Sheikh gives Ahmed the responsibility to collect his rent from their properties and taxes.

While doing so,Ahmed gets into love with Yasmin a gypsy dancer. The Sheikh calls him back to get married to Nadira d/o Ameer Qasim. Ahmed comes back but refuses to marry Nadira and runs away to Yasmin.

Yasmin actually belongs to a Gypsy group of thugs led by Yusuf(Shyam Kumar) who wants her to marry him.
The usual story unfolds how their love succeeds, etc.

As many as seven songs from this movie have already been discussed in the blog. Here is the eighth song from the movie.

This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Vyjyanti Mala.

Jaan Nisaar Akhtar is the lyricist. Music is composed by C Ramchandra.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

dil unko dhoondhta hai
ham dil ko dhoondhte hain
dil unko dhoondhta hain
ham dil ko dhoondhte hain
bhatke huye musaafir
manzil ko dhoondhte hain
manzil ko dhoondhte hain
dil unko dhoondhta hai
ham dil ko dhoondhte hain
bhatke huye musaafir
manzil ko dhoondhte hain
manzil ko dhoondhte hain

hum hain teri lagan hai
aye shama tu kahaan hai
hum hain teri lagan hai
aye shamma tu kahaan hai
parwaana bann ke teri
mehfil ko dhoondhte hain
mehfil ko dhoondhte hain
dil unko dhoondhta hai
ham dil ko dhoondhte hain
bhatke huye musaafir
manzil ko dhoondhte hain
manzil ko dhoondhte hain

duniya se hai niraala
dastoor aashiqon ka
aa aa aa aa
duniya se hai niraala
dastoor aashiqon ka
jeene ki aarzoo mein
qaatil ko dhoondhte hain
jeene ki aarzoo mein
qaatil ko dhoondhte hain
bhatke huye musaafir
manzil ko dhoondhte hain
manzil ko dhoondhte hain
dil unko dhoondhta hai
ham dil ko dhoondhte hain
bhatke huye musaafir
manzil ko dhoondhte hain
manzil ko dhoondhte hain

seene mein hasraton ka
jaaga hua hai toofaan
seene mein hasraton ka
jaaga hua hai toofaan
hum mauj banke apne
saahil ko dhoondhte hain
saahil ko dhoondhte hain
dil unko dhoondhta hai
ham dil ko dhoondhte hain
bhatke huye musafir
manzil ko dhoondhte hain
manzil ko dhoondhte hain

God! Every song in ‘Yasmin’ is a treat to the ears! Hats off to C Ramchandra! Thank you so much Atul-ji and Nitin-ji. By the way, have you featured the soft, beautiful, dreamy “Aankhon me samaajao, is dil me raha karna…” sung so beautifully by Lata? This song features tight close ups of a bewitching Vyjyanthimala and a handsome Suresh.

Thank you so much, Atul-ji. Only C Ramchandra had the talent—and the guts!—-to compose melodious songs with minimal use of instruments!

Wow…what a fantastic song! I believe Lataji’s voice was in different zone when she sang for C. Ramchandra.
