Rishte bas rishte hote hain

on:“Gehraayee” (1980) was a Avikam’s production. It was produced by N B Kamat and direcyed by Vikas Desai and Aruna Raje. The low budget art movie had Anant Nag, Dr.Shree Ram Lagoo, Indraani Mukherjee, Padmini Kolhapure, Reeta Bhaduri, Amrish Puri, Sudhir Dalvi, Shubha Joshi, Satyendra, Satya Kumar Patil, Suhas Bhalekar, Ameeta Kelekar, Eknath Hattangadi, Kumar Shahu, Ramakrishna, JyotiLaxmi, Indiramma, Somu, Rao etc in it.
Unsurprisingly, the movie sank without a trace. Personally I was not even aware of the existence of this movie.
The songs of this movie were just as obscure as the movie.
On the occasion of Gulzar’s birthday today (18 august 2012), here is a rare song from this movie. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. The song is a background song and it is picturised on Anant Nag, Indrani Mukherji, Padmini Kolhapure and Dr Shreeram Laagoo.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)
rishte bas rishte hote hain
rishte bas rishte hote hain
kuchch ik pal ke
kuchch do pal ke
kuchch ik pal ke
kuchch do pal ke
rishte bas rishte hote hain
rishte bas rishte hote hain
kuchch paron se
halke hote hain
kuchch paron se
halke hote hain
barson ke tale
chalte chalte
bhaari bharkam
ho jaate hain
kuchch bhaari bharkam barke se
barson ke tale
jalte jalte
halke phulke
ho jaate hain
rishte bas rishte hote hain
rishte bas rishte hote hain
naam hote hain
rishton ke
kuchch rishte
naam ke hote hain
rishtaa woh agar
mar jaayein bhi
rishtaa woh agar
mar jaayein bhi
bas naam se jeenaa hotaa hai
bas naam se jeenaa hotaa hai
rishte bas rishte hote hain

I totally agree with Prakashchandra! This movie is yet another testimony of the utter lack of taste of our moviegoers! ‘Gehrayee’ was such a well made taut thriller that explores the tussle between blind faith and pragmatic science. It deals with the unexplained irrational behaviour of a young innocent Padmini Kolhapuri. That scene of she standing nude was shown with such finesse. I shudder to think what the usual ‘masala film’ directors would have done with such a scene! I still remember the movie as if I had seen it very very recently. Aruna-Vikas were such fantastic directors! One only has to watch ‘Shaque’ starring Vinod Khanna and Shaban Azmi to see the impeccable details Aruna-Vikas showed on the screen. They had a knack of extracting wonderful acting out of their actors. In ‘Shaque’ Farida Jalal as Mrs Subramaniam was simply superb! No, she was not a typical ‘Madrasi’ comedian that Bollywood has stereotyped! I truly miss Aruna Vikas. I’m not sure but I think Vikas passed away a few years ago……

Mani ji
I liked all their films shaque, situm, gehraayee. I am with you Maniji.
Situm(also went unnoticed-it does have sensitive portrayal by smita patil, whose husband Naseeruddin,a football player dies because of another fellow football player Vikram`s unintentional blow by leg, while playing football game. Then onwards the movie revolves around how smita patil faces her life and sympathetic advances by vikram. The movie if I am not wrong produced by the actor Vikram himself.
Got one Bhupinder rendered beautiful song.
Naseeruddin shah is very good as a happy go lucky football player(who is in love with Shammi kapoor songs-there is a parody version of shammi kapoor songs enacted by Naseer)

Prakashchanra-ji, I’d heard of ‘Situm’ but neither had I seen it nor knew that it had been an Aruna~Vikas movie! Now that you’ve told the beautiful story, I somehow want to see it, Once again, a big thank you, Prakashchandra-ji……

This movie got a very good story:Evil force Vs science.
Movie was picturised mainly in Bangalore city locations.
I liked that movie when I had seen it on Doordarshan`s late night movie slot, before many years.
I think this movie is very famous for then young baby Padmini Kolhapure`s nude back portion scenes.(I read somewhere Censors objected it eventhough the story demanded that scene.)
The scene showed a black magic tantrik performing some rituals to heal padmini kolhapure(on whom evil force casts its spell)
Movie Directed by famous director duo Arun Vikas(Vikas Desai and Aruna raje-Who got divorced later on)
(who jointly directed
Shaque(vinod khanna,shabana azmi starrer)
Situm(Smita Patil,Vikram,Naseeruddin shah starrer)
After divorce Aruna raje directed independently:
Rihaee(Hema malini,Vinod KHanna,Naseeruddin Shah,Neena gupta -another Bold film by Indian movie standards -regarding femal sexuality)
Bhairavi(Ashwini Bhave,Sridhar movie)
Patit Paawani(a Marathi/kannada Billingual- on Devadasi system)
Tum-A Dangerous Obsession(famous for Manisha Koirala`s dare bare sequences, Rajat Kapoor)
