Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Nazar mil gayi jaane kis ki nazar se

Posted on: September 9, 2012

“Anokhi Ada”(1948) was a Mehboob Production movie. It was produced and directed by Mehboob Khan. The movie had Surendra, Naseem Bano, Prem Adeeb, Cuckoo, Bhudo Advani, Nawab, Zeb Qureshi, Reehan, Pratima Devi, Murad, Amir Banoo, Wasker, Abdul, Haroon, Master Ghulam Mohammed etc in it.

As many as eleven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the twelfth song from the movie.

This song is sung by Shamshad Begam. I guess that the song is picturised on Naseem Khan. The video of this song is available but it is not made available where I am. So I am unable to see the video. So I have provided an audio link instead.

Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist. Music is composed by Naushad.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

With a dozen songs from this movie already discussed, just how many more songs are still left ti be discussed. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter.

Song-Nazar mil gayi jaane kis ki nazar se (Anokhi Ada)(1948) Singer-Shamshad Begam, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad

Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)

uthi hook ke yoon aaj pehlu mein jaise
pehlu mein jaise
haan pehlu mein jaise
ae ae
uthi hook ke yoon aaj pehlu mein jaise

himmat to dekhe
haan himmat to dekhe
ae ae ae

Hope this helps some, if not all, readers.

One of my favourite Shamshad Begum songs. Naseem Banu looks exquisite and graceful, as always.

There is a significant body of opinion on the internet, suggesting that the cancelled/unreleased Mukesh-Naushad song, “Kyun Pheri Nazar Dekho To Idhar” which people usually tend to associate with Andaaz (1949), was, in fact, meant for Anokhi Ada.

It was initially recorded for the film Anokhi Ada but not included (edited out). Later, it was released as a Non-Film song.

As it was an orphan Mukesh-Naushad number from the late ’40s, it was easy to jump to the conclusion that it belonged to Andaaz. Thus, popular opinion gradually built around this premise.

I wonder what our in-house experts have to say about this.

A possible clue could lie in the identity of the lyricist, I believe. As Andaaz songs were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri, while Anokhi Ada had none of Majrooh in it (it was mostly Shakeel Badayuni and some Anjum Pilibhiti), if we could determine who wrote this song, we shall effectively unravel which film it was intended for.

I read it in Mr. Surjit Singh’s site many years ago that “Kyun pheri nazar” was an unreleased song of “Andaaz”. I have in fact discussed this song in the blog as a song belonging to “Andaaz”.
