Taash ke baawan patte
Posted by: Atul on: September 18, 2012
It was more than a couple of months ago that I had received the lyrics of a song which I loved. That song was one that I had never heard before. Moreover, this song was picturised on an actor who rarely lip synced songs on screen. I loved the song so much that I resolved that this song must be posted on a special day.
Special day for a song could be either a century post in the blog or an anniversary post. I wondered about the anniversaries of the actor. When I searched on line, I found that the anniversary details of this actor were not available, but the anniversary details of a director having an identical name were available. I asked around, and finally I was informed by Sudhir jee (and later confirmed by others) that 18 september was the perfect occasion for this song to be posted because this date was the death anniversary of the actor.
The actor I am talking about is the roly poly comedian Asit Sen, not to be confused with director Asit Sen.
The song is from an obscure movie called “Tamanna” (1969). It was a K S Pictures production. It was directed by K P Atma. The movie had Biswajeet, Mala Sinha, Shashikala, Agha, Nazima, Deven Verma, Nazir Hussain, Sulochana, Sajjan, Achla Sachdev, Asit Sen, Krishan Dhawan etc in it.
This song is picturised on Asit Sen and other card players. The other players exhort Asit Sen to play card with them- hoping that Asit Sen would lose money to them while doing so.
This song is a fun song, where Asit Sen laments the fact that the playing cards always let him down.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist of this song and he has drawn a very interesting and vivid picture of the thought process of a habitual card player and loser in cards. The song is sung with gusto by Mukesh. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
The lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah, and as mentioned above, I was holding on to this song for this special occasion.
Here is this nice and lesser known song from an obscure movie. What a wonderful song it is !

Song-Taash ke baawan patte (Tamanna)(1969) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Kalyanji Anandji
Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)
aji ho
taash ke baawan patte
panje chhakke satte
arre sab ke sab harjaayi
main lut gaya
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
taash ke baawan patte
panje chhakke satte
arre sab ke sab harjaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
daan yateemo ko deta toh,
daani main kehlaata
daani mani kehlaata
khush ho jaati biwi joh,
uske gehne banwaata
uske gehne banwaata
maine kaaghaz ki begam se kaahe aankh ladaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
taash ke baawan patte
panje chhakke satte
arre sab ke sab harjaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
apne dil ka chain bhi haara
aur daulat bhi haari
aur daulat bhi haari
malik ne insaan banaaya,
main ban gaya juaari
main ban gaya juaari
gali gali mein ho gayi,
yaaron aaj meri ruswaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
taash ke bawan patte
panje chhakke satte
arre sab ke sab harjaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
arre raja nal aur pandav haare
per himmat na hare
per himmat na haare
arre jaate jaate ho jaaye
ek baazi mere pyaare
haan haan baazi mere pyare
ae khelo na ae khelo bhai khelo bhai
jeb hai meri khaali
haay haay
jeb hai meri khaali
kaise kheloon koi bataaye
kaise kheloon koi bataaye
arre guindi rakh ke le kar jaa
kaahe ko ghabraaye
saain
kaahe ko ghabraaye
ghar se beghar kyun karte ho
ghar jane do bhai
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
taash ke baawan patte
panje chhakke satte
arre sab ke sab harjaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
main lut gaya raam duhaayi
