Ilaahi tu sun le hamaali duaa

on:Today (29 september) is the birth anniversary of Mehmood Ali Khan, known to movie watchers simply as Mehmood. Mehmood (29 September 1932 – 23 July 2004) made his debut in Hindi movies as a child actor in 1940s and then graduated as a grown up actor in 1950s. He became a comedian who commanded his own CSP (Comic side plot) in Hindi movies of 1950s and 1960s.
In early 1960s, he also turned producer. His banner, called Mumtaz Pictures, produced “Chhote Nawaab” (1961). It was directed by S A Akbar. The movie had Mehmood, Ameeta, Altaf, Helen, Minoo Mumtaz, Achla Sachdev, Nazir Hussain, Anwar Hussain, S. N. Banerjee, Kumar, Johnny Walker etc in it.
Mehmood played a mentally challenged person who is mentally a child and talks with childlike lisping.
This movie marked the debut of R D Burman as a music director and he created some memorable songs in it.
As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie.
This song is sung by Rafi and it is picturised as a poignant song sung by Mehmood with his father on the deathbed. The father in fact dies during the song when Mehmood is looking elsewhere but Mehmood does not notice that.
Shailendra is the lyricist. In the lyrics some words containing “r” have been spelt as “l” as is supposed to be the case for someone with a lisp. but then as a poetic license, the word “r” is spelt normally in case of other words. Thus we find words like “hamaari” and “karen” spelt as “Hamaali” and kalen” respectively, while words like “sirf”. “roshan” “rahe” etc retain their original spelling.
THe picturisation also shows Minu Mumtaz, the real life sister of Mumtaz who plays his reel life sister in this movie as well (if I remember correctly).

Song-Ilaahi tu sun le hamaali duaa (Chhote Nawaab)(1961) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics(Provided by nahm)
ilaahi tu sun le hamaali duaa
hamen sirf ek aasra hai teraa
teri rehmatein raah roshan kalen
salaamat rahe saaya maan baap ka
ilaahi tu sun le
ham se le kar umr saari
neend de de unhen
dard un ke de hamen
ham se le kar umr saari
neend de de unhen
dard un ke de hamen
buri yeh ghadi taal de aye khuda
ilaahi tu sun le hamaali duaa
hamen sirf ek aasra hai teraa
teri rehmatein raah roshan kalen
salaamat rahe saaya maan baap ka
naaz utthaaye jis ne paala
pyaal har dam kiya
ho na ham se woh judaa
naaz utthaaye jis ne paala
pyaal har dam kiya
ho na ham se woh judaa
tu ummeed ka ye diyaa mat bujha
ilaahi tu sun le hamaali duaa
hamen sirf ek aasra hai telaa
teri rehmatein raah roshan kalen
salaamat rahe saaya maan baap ka
(Azaan)
siwaa tele mele maalik
meraa kaun hai yehaan
bewafaa hai yeh jahaan
siwaa tele mele maalik
meraa kaun hai yehaan
bewafaa hai yeh jahaan
kahin tu bhi ham ko na denaa bhulaa
ilaahi tu sun le hamaali duaa
hamen sirf ek aasra hai telaa
teri rehmatein raah roshan kalen
salaamat rahe saaya maan baap ka
ilaahi tu sun le

Atul ji,
Full marks to Rafi saab for singing this type of song, where one has to remember what he has to say instead of the correct words.Really difficult.I tried to only read quickly but found difficulty, because the brain is trained for something else.
Anyway, now only the following 2 songs remain to be posted-
1.Har ho ki jeet ho khel me rahe magan-Rafi+chorus
2. Range mehfil badalne laga,jaam chhalake-Shamshad,Rafi+chorus.
