Vijay Anand, the youngest of the Anand brothers clan, is a name very familiar. More so as a producer and director, who has to his credit such rollicking hits like ‘Nau Do Gyaarah’ (1957), ‘Kaala Bazaar’ (1960), ‘Teesri Manzil’ (1966), ‘Jewel Thief’ (1967), ‘Johnny Mera Naam’ (1970) and ‘Tere Mere Sapne’ (1971). He was the director for the magnum opus production of ‘Guide’ (1965) for Dev Anand, arguably the best film of Hindi Cinema.

Prakash ji has written for the second time in ‘Readers Farmaishes’ requesting for the upload of this wonderful sad song in the voice of Lata Mangeshkar. The music composition is by that underrated genius – Ganesh. Prakash ji has mentioned that the song itself is not posted anywhere on the internet. So when I read this comment from Prakash ji, repeating his request for this song, I had to pull this out from my collection, and have posted it on YouTube today.

During the summer of 1940, Mahatma Gandhi was in Simla, as part of his travels around the country. A public meeting was arranged that was to be addressed by him. Incidentally, the same day, another public function was scheduled. This program was a music program, and a small child, little more than 12 years in age, was to sing. The public made a beeline for the music program and it is on record that Gandhi ji expressed irritation that his call for a public meeting was largely ignored, and the people preferred to attend a music presentation by a child artist.

“Yakeen” (1969) was a Navratna Pictures presentation. It was directed by Brij. The movie had Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Sunder, Helen, Anwar Hussain, Asit Sen, Brahm Bharadwaj, Vinod Sharma, Mukri, Dharmendra, Kamini Kaushal, David Abraham, Shetty, Gautam Mukherji etc in it.
