Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Dil ke paar ho gayee

Posted on: January 3, 2013

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

1960 saw the release of the famous film ‘Bambai Ka Babu’. With Dev Anand and Suchitra Sen in the lead and music by SD Burman, this film did well to stay put in the memory of the viewers and listeners. In the same year, another ‘Bambai’ film was released, that seemed to have disappeared without making any impact, and there is nothing one hears about it.

But yesterday, I came across a fabulous stunning song by Geeta Dutt, that I have not heard before. I have since listened to it many times, and the song is now just going around in my head. Really a very stunning and endearing melody that has me hooked on to it now. And so I went after searching more details about this song. First thing that I find is the film name – ‘Bambai Ki Billi’ from 1960. First time I am hearing the name of the film too. Then going for more details from the Geet Kosh, I find that it is a stunt movie from the banner of Super Pictures, Bombay, produced by Aspi Irani and directed by Zahoor Ahmed. The star cast includes Sudhir, Kum Kum, Mukri, Hiralaal, Nazima, Uma Dutt, Pal Sharma, Shakeel Nomani, Tuntun, Babu Raje, Sagar, Chandabai, Shri Bhagwan, Wajid Khan, Nazir Kashmiri, Bagla, Narayan, Jalejar, Ajit, Balaram, Dinsha, Bachchu Bhai, Andaleep, Jilani, Ashalata etc. The songs of this film are written by Hasrat Jaipuri, and the music director – Khayyaam. Yes, that was the most surprising name for me too. Khayyaam Sb and such a fast paced melody, I believe it now that I have heard it and liked it.

Only the audio of this song is available online, and so not possible to comment on the picturization. I request other knowledgeable readers to please add more information about this film and this song.

A wonderful and surprising creation from Khayyaam Sb, rendered with such verve by Geeta Dutt. Enjoy.

Song-Dil ke paar ho gayee teri ik nazar (Bambai Ki Billi)(1960) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Khayyam

Lyrics

dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar
dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar
haaye hum to reh gaye
thaam kar jigar
haaye hum to reh gaye
thaam kar jigar
dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar

ab haal kuchh na poochhiye
bas meri shakl dekhiye
ab haal kuchh na poochhiye
meri shakl dekhiye
chot aisi khaayi hai
kuchh nahin khabar
dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar
haaye hum to reh gaye
thaam kar jigar
dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar

ye pyaar bhi ajeeb hai
sun tu mera naseeb hai
ye pyaar bhi ajeeb hai
tu mera naseeb hai
zindagi lutaa chuke
tere naam par
dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar
haaye hum to reh gaye
thaam kar jigar
dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar

ye geet aahen sard hai
aur meetha meetha dard hai
ye geet aahen sard hai
meetha meetha dard hai
tu hi tu hai saamne
dekhen hum jidhar
dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar
haaye hum to reh gaye
thaam kar jigar
dil ke paar ho gayee
teri ik nazar

Sounds very much like, ‘Aasman pe hai khuda aur zamennpe hum…” from Raj Kapoor starrer ,’Phir subha hogi ‘ !!

Now that I read your comment, and compare, yes that is correct. ‘Phir Subah Hogi’ from 1958 also has music by Khayyaam. Strange that he chose to repeat a tune as soon as in 1960 itsef.

Tune repeated, yes, but Geeta-ji is incomparable!!
