Sometimes we meet someone, and are so impressed by the personality and the interaction, that we remember that person lifelong. And sometimes fortune plays such games, that we meet someone we think is so wonderfully special, but then life never does bring the same person near us again. Maybe decades will pass, and we occasionally will think of that person, and remember the feeling of goodness we had. But sometimes life is kind, and allows us to meet some such person whom we met long, long ago, and always remembered with fondness.
Some such thing happened with me couple of days ago. This wonderfully soft and lovely melody of love, is a song that I had heard decades ago, probably once, on the radio. And of course, no memories of any related information.
The only memories that the mind retained were the strumming rhythm, the feeling of soft moonbeams, and a feeling of pleasant fulfillment. Occasionally, infrequently, this rhythm would play in my mind sometimes, and I was not even thinking of locating the song ever again, it seemed so elusive.
But of course, today we have YouTube. And two days back, I stumbled upon once again, on to this exquisite melody. The feeling of elation that swept over me when I heard this song play again – well that is hard to describe. But I am sure when you will hear this song, you will be able to resonate what I felt.
One reason that this song, and many more like this, are lost from sight and keep lurking somewhere in the unknown depths of memory, is that they are part of very obscure films. The films that probably had a very short stint on the projection screen. Few people would have seen it, and even fewer would remember the lovely music that played while they were watching it.
The records of this film probably did not sell much either. The year is 1958, the film has a fantasy name like ‘Son Of Sindbad’ and the music director is the much underappreciated Chitragupt, who made his mark mostly with the grade B and C films. If this song is something to go by, it is a grade A gem that should not have suffered the fate that it did. Even the
radio broadcasters were partial, and forgot to play this often enough.
‘Son Of Sindbad’ makes its debut on this blog, with this song today. It is a film name that many wouldn’t remember. And it is a film about which not much information is available. It is a production from the banner of Neo Light Films. It is produced by Ram Kamlani and Balwant Bhatt, and is directed by Nanabhai Bhatt. The star cast includes Premnath, Jabeen, Bhagwan, Poornima, Nishi, Tiwari, Cuckoo, Shammi, Sunder, Kuldeep Kaur, Jagdeep, Samson, Jagdish, Ridku, Kriplani, K Tewari, Saroj, Heera, Fazlu, Sayyed, Keshav, Abdul, Kenny etc. The film has eight songs that have come from the pen of Prem Dhawan. And the music, of course, is by Chitrgupt. If this song is anything to go by, I am now looking for more songs from this film.
The singing voices are of Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar. A very lovely duet, sung under the moonbeams, as lovers talk about matters of the heart. Enjoy.
