“Chalta Purza”(1977) was produced and directed by Bhappi Sonie. The movie had Rajesh Khanna, Parveen Babi, Rakesh Roshan, Ajit, Asrani, Bindu, Mumtaz Begam, Sudhir, Dev Kumar, Ranjeet, Manorama, Murad, Dhuman, V Gopal, Jankidas etc in it.
This movie had come after Rajesh Khanna’s honeymoon period with the moviegoers was over and his movies no longer automatically drew crowds. Critics had begun to find faults in Rajesh Khanna’s movies. I used to read the movie reviews of “Saptahik Hindustan” magazine and the movie reviwer, called Ishwar Singh Bais was not impressed with the movie. So based on that review, I assumed that the movie was not good enough and that it had failed.
Now, many decades later, I find that many of the Rajesh Khanna movies that were not received well at that time (at least by movie reviwers) are being hailed as hits and even super hits. That could not have been the case. I remember that Rajesh Khanna movies continued to do poor business at the box office till 1980 when his movies, viz. “Thhodi Si Bewafaai” (1980) etc began to do reasonably well at the box office.
I have no idea how “Chalta Purza” (1977) did at the box office. The media of course had not received this movie well.
Personally I do not remember the songs of this movie all that much. The songs of this movie were rarely heard on radio or loudspeakers at that time even though the top musical team of the day had created the music for this movie.
Here is a song from “Chalta Purza” (1977). This song is sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar. It is picturised as a get together song. The song is lip synced by Parveen Babi and Rajesh Khanna with others, including Rakesh Roshan also present.
Anand Bakhi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

Song-Band lifaafe mein jaise (Chalta Purza)(1977) Singers-Lata, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics(Provided by Avinash Scrapwala)
Aapne farz nibhaayaa hai
aapne farz nibhaayaa hai
manzil tak pahunchaayaa hai
aap ki ee
badi nawaazish hai
lekin ek gujaarish hai
ke
band lifaafe mein jaise
band lifaafe mein jaise ae ae
paighaam likhaa hotaa hai
band lifaafe mein jaise ae ae
paighaam likhaa hotaa hai
dil ke korey kaagaz pe
dil ke korey kaagaz pe ae ae ae
ek naam likhaa hotaa hai
band lifaafe mein jaise ae ae
paighaam likhaa hotaa hai
ulfat kahin badalti hai
dil se kabhi nikalti hai
aksar ham deewaanon kaa aa
chaahat ke afsaanon kaa
kehte hain pehle se hi ee
anjaam likhaa hotaa hai
dil ke korey kaaghaz pe ae ae
ek naam likhaa hotaa hai
duniyaa khoob samajhti hai
unki jodi banti hai
jis ladke ke chehre par
jis ladki ke chehre par
Raadha likhaa
Raadha likhaa hotaa hai ae
aur Shyaam likhaa hotaa hai
dil ke korey kaaghaz pe ae ae
ek naam likhaa hotaa hai
dilbar hanstey rotey hain
muft mein saudey hotey hain
phir kyun phool bahaaron mein ae
biktey hain baazaaron mein
dil wo cheez nahin jis par
daam likhaa hotaa hai
dil ke korey kaaghaz pe ae ae
ek naam likhaa
hotaa hai

Thanks Atul ji for the beautiful post !
i do also noted the same thing as mentioned by you, the Rajesh Khanna films which were earlier declared flops, are now being mentioned as ‘hit’ and ‘grossers’ (e.g. when i search the details of ‘Phir Wahi Raat’ on wiki 3 months back it mentioned the film as a hit). I have not watched this film ‘Chalta Purza’ only the ‘lifaafa’ song was in my vague memory ..
Thanks again !

Thanks Prakash ji !
the ‘Leena Das’ song is ‘raat ne rang jamaya hain… naya khiladi aaya hain’.
As mentioned i have not watched this film and do not remember either if my Father or Uncle had taken me when they saw it. And ‘how come this song’ is an interesting thing i.e. there was a song in my vague memory ‘chala chal lifaafe kabootar ki chaal’ and somehow my mind had programmed it as a song from Rajesh Khanna film,so when i grow as a Rajesh Khanna fan and after so many years could not have this song in my collection was very embarrasing for me. Finally i search this song but only to know that the song was from the film ‘Deedar e Yaar'(1982). So the ‘lifaafa’ was still haunting me. But i got it one day and in this song the ‘lifaafa’ opened up only in the seventh line .. as it start with ‘aapne farz nibhaayaa hai’. Thats all how we could introduce another Rajesh Khanna film to our movie-list. Thanks for your appreciation!
