on:“Naata” (1955) was a Madhubala Pvt Ltd production movie. It was directed by D N Madhok. The movie had Madhubala, Chanchal, Abhi Bhattacharya, Hiralal, Yashodhara Katju, Maruti etc in it.
As many as seven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is another song from this movie. This song is sung by Lata. D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by S Mohinder.
This song in fact is in two parts with identical lyrics. Lata is the singer. D N Madhok is the lyricist and music is composed by S Mohinder.
I wonder if the two occurences of the song in the movie are regarded as separate song or a single song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the matter. The first instance is picturised on a haggard dishevelled looking lady, which a closer look reveals to be none other than Madhubala ! The second instance is picturised on Madhubala and chanchal, and the two sisters too so similar to each other in the picturisation.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Song-Sun sakhi ri tera jal chuka aashiyaan (Naata)(1955) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-D N Madhok, MD-S Mohinder
Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)
sun sakhi ri tera
aa aa aa aa
sun sakhi ri tera
jal chuka aashiyaan
jal chuka aashiyaan
aasraa chhod de
aasraa chhod de
lut gayaa hai tera
raah mein caravan
raah mein caravan
aasraa chhod de
aasraa chhod de
sun sakhi ri tera
aa aa aa aa
man mein ghut ke rahi
tere man ki lagan
lut gaya hai teri zindagi ka chaman
o raani ee ee
lut gaya hai teri
zindagi ka chaman
yoon girin bijliyaan
yoon chalin aandhiyaan
yoon chalin aandhiyaan
raakh ban kar udaa
pyaar ka aashiyaan
ho chuka intehaa
aasraa chhod de
aasraa chhod de
sun sakhi ri tera
jal chuka aashiyaan
jal chuka aashiyaan
aasraa chhod de
aasraa chhod de
sun sakhi ri tera
aa aa aa aa
ae sakhi ye muhabbat ka naata nahin
is tarah roothh kar koi jaata nahin
o raani ee ee
is tarah rooth kar koi jaata nahin
bol jaayen kahaan teri hamjoliyaan
teri hamjoliyaan
kaun bolega ab pyaar ki boliyaan
royen hamjoliyaan
aasraa chhod de

This song is also credited to Tanveer Naqvi on some sights. D.N.Madhok no doubt, was the director of Naataa, but the lyrics were written by Tanveer Naqvi of Anmol Ghari’s fame. Madhok might have written a couple of songs for this film but they are not easily to be found. So far as this particular song is concerned, it is a typically Naqvi song and is full of poetic expressions which is not the forte of Madhok. Although Madhok was a highly gifted lyric writer he has not written lyrics of this type. Kindly confirm. I feel sorry for Naqvi who has been poorly represented on this blog. In my estimate he deserved a better treatment.

There are 2 types of songs, repeated in a film, with the same Lyrics-
1) A song may play in the background several times, having the same lyrics-then I think it should be considered as one song only.
2) when same lyric song is repeated in the film, with different filming, then it should be counted as 2 songs.
The above song falls in the second category, hence they are 2 songs.
