Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Main raahi anjaan raahon ka

Posted on: July 6, 2013

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

This is the last remaining song from Anjaana (1969). It is a ‘Jeep’ song and happens right at the beginning of the film. I got a chance to see this movie on T V during a weekend. Much to my chagrin, they cut two songs from the movie. Somebody tell these T V channels that this is a 60’s movie not 80’s movie, hence the songs are not surplus and they are the main attraction. I could see the song situation in the scene’s leading up to the song, only to see the scene after the song next. My husband alerted me that they are cutting the songs, as the ‘bhai-bahen’ song Hum behnon ke liye mere bhaiyya was cut.

The movie has Rajendra Kumar, Babita, Nirupa Roy, Prem Chopra, Pran, Mohan Choti, Sunder, and Tun Tun. It is the usual run of the mill, lost and found theme, with good songs like ‘ rim jhim ke geet saawan gaaye ‘, woh kaun hai woh kaun hai, ‘ke jaan chali jaaye jiya nahin jaaye’. Rajendra Kumar as the hero also has multiple roles to play, as he is motor mechanic, dressing up as a college principal, a prince and a advocate as and when the script requires a new character.

This Rafi solo remained to be posted, though I had sent the lyrics of this song too with the duet Jaan chali jaaye jiyaa nahin jaaye.

Laxmikant Pyarelal are the composers and Anand Bakshi is the lyricist of this movie. The audio version is longer so the lyrics are as per the longer version. So another movie name is turning ‘surkh’ with this song.

Lyrics

ho ho ho
oo ho ho
o ho ho

main raahi anjaan raahon kaa
main raahi anjaan raahon kaa
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana
oye
main raahi anjaan raahon kaa
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana
main panchhi anjaan baaghon kaa
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana

mere saare geet anjaane
mere saare geet anjaane
jaane kya yeh log deewaane
jaane bas yeh kaliyaan
yeh phoolon ki galiyaan
jaane bas yeh kaliyaan
yeh phoolon ki galiyaan
main raagi anjaan geeton ka
bahaaron meraa naam anjaanaa
oye main raahi anjaan raahon kaa
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana

chaltaa hoon main door manzil se
chaltaa hoon main door manzil se
meraa kyaa hai kaam saahil se
har toofaani dhaaraa
meraa hai kinaaraa
har toofaani dhaaraa
meraa hai kinaaraa
main maanjhi anjaan dhaaron kaa
nazaaron meraa naam anjaana
oye main raahi anjaan raahon kaa
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana

raste mein bahaar mil jaaye
raste mein bahaar mil jaaye
shaayad koyi yaar mil jaaye
nikla hoon akelaa
dhoondhoon koyi melaa
nikla hoon akelaa
dhoondhoon koyi melaa
main saathhi anjaan sapnon kaa
pukaaro meraa naam anjaanaa
oye main raahi anjaan raahon kaa
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana
main panchhi anjaan baaghon kaa
o yaaron meraa naam anjaana

Thank you, nahmji.

I remember seeing this movie as a young boy. And also much later, just a few years ago. It was a pretty big hit in its time – far bigger than many think. The songs were all pretty popular. You’ve mentioned some of them – there was also “aa meri rani le ja chhalla nishaani” which was quite popular.

You are right – the movie itself was just a routine storyline. But somehow in those days, Jubilee Kumar could come up with jubilee hits far more easily than most other actors. Hard to pinpoint what it was – maybe the songs had a big role to play in his success. Many of songs picturised on him (mostly sung by Rafisaab) are hit songs.

I was surprised when i came to know that this film is from 1969. And all songs are hit and popular. Must have been before the ‘Aradhana’ wave.

I think Jubilee kumar is also one of those whose style and mannerism were inspired by Dilip Kumar’s style. And definetly the songs played a huge role in his success.

Thanks nahm ji,
In early eighties theatres (CP Berar circuit) had started screening Rajesh Khanna movies after the success of Avtaar and Souten. With these movies, there was a revival of some of the late sixties-seventies movies also.
Thus I got to watch this movie in theatre with my freinds. Rajendra Kumar movies have guarantee of good music and Rafi saab’s songs and always enjoyable.
One of my favorite songs…. thanks !!

You are so right Nahm. I feel like killing the TV walas when they cut exactly the song you are really waiting to hear. The 60s songs were the real stars of the movies. They might as well blank out a hero’s face.

Yeh log nahi sudharenge!

Is it just me, or does the audio version has a lot of cracks in between?
