Dukh sukh ki har ik maala

Posted on: July 11, 2013

Today (11 july 2013) is the 12th death anniversary of Qateel Shifaai (24 december 1919- 11 july 2001). He was mostly active in Pakistani movie industry as a lyricist, but some of his lyrics have been used in a few Hindi movie songs as well.

Here is a song from “Kudrat” (1981). This song is written by Qateel Shifaai and its music is composed by R D Burman.

This song in fact has two versions. One version is sung by Chandrashekhar Gadgil and another version by Rafi.

Here are both the versions of the song.

Lyrics of the song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala.

aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa

dukh sukh ki har ik maala
Kudrat hi pirotee hai

O dukh sukh ki har ik maala
Kudrat hi pirotee hai
haathon ki lakeeron mein ae ae
ye jaagti sotee hai ae
dukh sukh ki har ik maala
Kudrat hi pirotee hai

yaadon ka safar ye kare ae
gujri bahaaron mein kabhi ee
aane wale kal pe hanse
udtey nazaaron mein kabhi
ek haath mein andhiyaaraa aa aa
ek haath mein jyoti hai ae
dukh sukh ki har ik maala
Kudrat hi pirotee hai

aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa

saamnaa kare jo iskaa aa
kisi mein ye dam hai kahaan aa
iska khilauna banke
hum sab jeete hain yahaan
jis raah se hum guzren aen
ye saamne hoti hai ae
dukh sukh ki har ik maala
Kudrat hi pirotee hai

aahon ke janaaze dil mein ae
aankhon mein chitaayein gham ki ee
neendein ban gayeen tinkaa
chali wo hawaayein gham ki
insaan ke andar bhi ee
aandhi koyee hoti hai ae
dukh sukh ki har ik maala
Kudrat hi pirotee hai

aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa

khud ko chhupaane waalon ka aa
pal pal peechha ye kare ae ae
jahaan bhi ho mit’te nishaan
wahin jaake paav ye dhare
phir dil kaa harek ghaav
ashqon se ye dhoti hai ae
dukh sukh ki har ek maala
Kudrat hi pirotee hai
haathon ki lakeeron mein ae ae
ye jaagati sotee hai
dukh sukh ki har ik maala
Kudrat hi pirotee hai

@ Parakash ji – thanks for the information ! yes, it is a background song played in ‘bits and pieces’ in the film at different situations ! that is for the Rafi Saab’s version !
i do not remember about the Chandrashekhar Gadgil version !

Ironically i had only the Chandrashekhar Gadgil version in my vague memory – since childhood – till last year, when Rajesh Khanna passed away. and there was his films on ‘show case’ where this was one and i got a chance to watch this movie. There i came to know this Rafi saab’s version.
what a soulfully rendered song by both the singers? and what a beautiful poetry !

He seems to have done about 10-12 songs in bollywood, almost all for RDB movies – Kudrat, Harjaee, Daulat, Romance, Mazdoor, Manzil Manzil, Itihaas, Dard Ka Rishta, etc.

Other than it seems he has done lots of Marathi music/religious stuff types and was very active till the end. Arunji/Kamathji would know more in this area. My marathi knowledge is only limited to Kai Zaala types 🙂

The other song sung by him that I shared was this from ‘Ashaanti-1982’ composed by RDB – ‘shakti de maa, shakti de maa’
