Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Hello hello kyaa haal hai

Posted on: August 5, 2013

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Last night, when the 700th song of Kishore Da was posted, immediately there was a comment by Mahesh Bhai Mammadapur, requesting to know whether Kishore Da has any songs sung under the music direction of Naushad. Decidedly, this pairing is absolutely rare, because their peak periods were far apart. When Naushad was on the top in 50s and 60s, Kishore Da was considered less than a mainstream singer. And when Kishore Da ruled the world of Hindi film music in the 70s and 80s, Naushad Sb was a spent force, with really very few films to his credit during this period.

So as soon as I read that comment, immediately the one instance that these two artists have worked together, came to the mind. The film is ‘Sunehraa Sansaar’ from 1975. It is a production from Madras, under the banner of Vijay Bhadvo Movies, and is directed by A Subbarao. The star cast is Rajendra Kumar, Hema Malini, Mala Sinha, Om Prakash, Asrani, Romesh Sharma, Sujit Kumar, Ramesh Dev, David, Sundar, Seema, Priti Sapru. The songs are written by Anand Bakshi and the music is from the baton of Naushad Sb. One song in this film is a duet with the singing voices of Kishore Da and Asha Bhosle.

Although only the audio of this song is available online, but if I remember correctly, this song is a telephone song that is picturized on screen on Romesh Sharma and Preeti Sapru. Sitting in their beds in their own homes, the young lovers are having a romantic tete-a-tete over the phone. In the film, there are more than one instances of such late night tele conversations between the young pair, at times leading to comic scenes, as their respective fathers catch them exchanging kisses and sweet nothings over the phone connection.

And so, thanks to Mahesh Bhai, here is a unique song, most likely the only one recorded by Kishore Da under Naushad Sb’s music direction. In his comment, Mahesh ji also refers to another film that is unreleased. This film also possibly has this combination of artists working together. I would request other knowledgeable readers to please add more information about this, if possible.

Lyrics

hello
hello
kya haal hai
bada
buraa
ye saal hai
behki hui si chaal hai
hello

hello
kya haal hai
bada
buraa
ye saal hai
behki hui si chaal hai
hello

aage to shiqwaa koi nahin
hosh mein hoon main khoi nahin
din bhar dil ko chain rahaa
raat ko pal bhar soi nahin
aap ka ye kamaal hai
hello

hello
kya haal hai
bada
buraa
ye saal hai

ya ra ra ra ra
ya ra ra ra ra
aaa
ya ra ra ra ra

phool khile barsaat hui
din ki kaayaa raakh hui
mujh ko kuchh bhi yaad nahin
kab jaane kya baat hui
hardam tera khayaal hai
hello
hello
kya haal hai
bada
buraa
ye saal hai

aao baitho paas sanam
baat hai lambi
waqt hai kam

hum dono ki ek khushi
hum dono ka ek hai gham
pyaar ye bemisaal hai
hello
hello
kya haal hai
bada
buraa
ye saal hai

Pahali baar suna yeh geet…Nice

devnagari script mei bhi geet likhe dekh kar bahut accha lga.

Kishore Kumar fulfilled his lifetime’s ambition when, at long last, he sang a duet, Hello, Hello, kya haal hai, with Asha Bhosle in Sunehra Sansar (1975). But his only song for Naushad was ultimately knocked out of the film!

Friends,

A little note on the genesis of this post. As I mentioned in the post, when the 700th song of Kishore Da was post last evening, Mahesh Bhai responded with a comment about Naushad Sb and Kishore Da working together.

The film ‘Sunehraa Sansaar’ and this song came to my mind immediately, and I set about writing this post right away. I completed it and sent it to Atul ji. After the time I had sent it, then Mahesh ji wrote again, confirming this to be the song, and that it was not included in the film. I referred to the Geet Kosh and find that this song is very much present on the EP records released for this film. Based on Mahesh ji’s comment and also the re-affirmation by Bluefire ji, it is to be surmised that this song was prepared for this film, but then excluded from the film.

So in this post, I have written some sentences that describe the situation of the song, and I daresay that this probably is some incorrect memories from having seen the film long back. I also wondered why the video clip was not available. Most likely that the song is not finally included and hence, no video clip.

Prakash ji,
Thanks for the additional details. It is always good have more information for reference.
🙂

Mahesh ji,
I hope this post and the explanation above is OK to address the status of this song.

First time I’m hearing this. Nice one. I think Kishore must have been a bit nervous singing for Naushad saab. 🙂

Indeed Naushad saab did not have a high opinion of Kishore’s singing. For that matter, even OP Nayyar did not have a high opinion of Kishore’s voice , though he did use him late sparingly, esp late in his career (Ek Baar Muskura Do).

Raja ji,

This song is likely recorded in 1974-75. Twenty years before this, in 1954-55, Kishore Da recorded his only songs for Sajjaad Hussain for film ‘Rukhsaana’ (1955) – one solo and one duet. It was known in industry circles then, that Sajjaad Sb referred to Kishore Kumar as ‘shor kumar’, in his typical dismissive way. 🙂

Maheshbhai is a rare breed.
We all fall back to internet to get info, but he uses his fertile brain/memory to come up with these challenges and contentions which always come true (Sham Sunder using Mukesh only once). I am still trying (breaking my head) to find Sahir and Naushad combo>>another challenge thrown by him.

To all the contributors, hundreds of salaams for digging so much of information. I heard this song for the first time. Immediately I was reminded of “Jalte Hain Kiske liye” from “Sujata”, another telephone song. My thanks to all once again.

Nitinji, I am humbled, but yet to reveal my age.

Sudhirji, The explanation is now OK. But the end result is unfair. Technically no Kishoreda song for Naushad.

The genius called Sajjad Hussein had more comic names for singers. I read somewhere that he called Talat Mahmood as “Galat” Mahmood and Mukesh as some lazy person taking an evening stroll.

But what a composer he was. His “woh tho chale gaye yeh dil” from Sangdil haunts me all the time. What a song.

I have a feeling that this is not by kishore Kumar. It sounds sooo much like Rafi. Stalwarts of the blog please enlighten!😟
