“Preetam” (1971) was produced and directed by Bhappi Sonie. The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna, Leena Chandavarkar, Helen, Raj Mehra, Tiwari, Anwar Hussain, Manmohan, Siddhu, Malika, Urmila Bhatt, Raj Kishore, Ravikant, Daya Devi, Shyam, Dhanraj, Robert Slater, Birbal, Naaz, Dhumal, Mehmood etc in it.
Today (15 october 2013) is the 91st birth anniversary of Shankar (15 october 1922-26 april 1987 ) of the Shankar Jaikishan duo. On this occasion, here is a song from “Preetam” (1971).
This song is sung by Lata. It is picturised as a get together /party song and it is picturised on Leena Chandawarkar who is dressed like Mumtaz in the song Aajkal tere mere pyar ke charche(Brahmachari). But while Shammi Kapoor too played an active part in the “Brahamchaari” song, here Shammi Kapoor looks like he is not at all enjoying the party.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

This could easily be mistaken to be a Asha number :). Very peppy and nice song.

All India Radio, in its infinite wisdom, had more or less banned this song and never played it on Vividh Bharati as they felt the lyrics were obscene! Radio Ceylon however, run by true professionals and more mature people, never saw obscenity where none existed and merrily played this song for its listeners!

There is a mistake in the dates mentioned for Shankar (15 Aug 1922- 4 Nov 1929).
Please correct them.
