So we reach the end and final song in the A-Z of Rafi songs series. I can say I have missed hundred’s of songs, which could have been part of this series. I am very much aware of the fact that some much better and rarer songs are out there which could have been posted. Their time will surely come, but it was not to be in this series.
It is time for a recap of all the song posted before this :
While looking for songs, on youtube, I have found a few Rafi songs which are not part of both the excel sheet’s that I have and referred to. A few of them are from unreleased films. These films and songs are not mentioned in myswar.com and are not included in the geetkosh too.
While looking for Z songs in the list, I made a list of four songs initially. But when I listened to this song ‘zamaana hai agar ik ham na honge’ from the unreleased film ‘Watan’ I couldn’t go beyond this song. This is a bridge I had to cross. As all goods things, this series also had to come to an end.
This is a ghazal written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by Shankar-Jaikishan. This is a pragmatic, prophetic rendition by Rafi sahab. My only regret is the full ghazal recording is not available and what is available is a part of it having two sha’irs.
I wish to thank Sudhir Sir, Avinash ji and Atul ji for all their help and suggestions during this series. Special thanks are due to Sudhir Sir, for trying his level best to get the full song, which was not to be. The song is supposed to have 6 stanza’s, which should be 5 more sha’irs and more than 5 minutes long. One hopes that the full ghazal will surface sooner than later.
I also thank all the readers of the blog for their interest and forbearance, during the course of this series.
This is anticlimactic fate, that I should finish the series off with an incomplete ghazal, talking about the time when one is no more.
A fitting finale song….. for a playback singer, par excellence who stopped singing mid song and embarked on a journey from where no one ever comes back.
Song-Zamaana hai agar ik ham na honge (Watan)(UR)(1968) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
Zamaana hai agar ik ham na honge
wafaa par marnewaale kam na honge
zamaana hai agar ik ham na honge
wafaa par marnewaale kam na honge
zamaana hai agar ik ham na honge
wafaa par marnewaale kam na honge
zamaana hai agar
hameen tak hain ye dard-o-gham ki baaten
hameen tak hain ye dard-o-gham ki baaten
hamaare baad phir ye gham na honge
wafaa par marne waale kam na honge
zamaana hai agar ik ham na honge
wafaa par marnewaale kam na honge
zamaana hai agar

Nahm ji – Heartiest Congratulations on completing this series. It was a very nice and innovative concept too. and as i had requested you earlier, please consider its part-II, as there are many songs of Rafi Saab still to be introduced.
What i should say about this song … ‘ Rafi Saab- a Divine Voice’ – ‘Zamaane aayenge aur jab sunenge, Rafi Saab ki aawaaz par mar-mitnewaale’ kam na honge… unke deewaane kabhi kam na honge..

Thanks you.
As for Part – II, I feel, it should wait till next year. 2014 is just around the corner, after all.

Nahm ji,
Yes, an anticlimatic, but still a wonderful conclusion to this enamoring series. Really appreciate your effort and determination with this journey of songs, on the way providing us to listen to some real wonderful gems, known and forgotten.
My efforts to locate the full song still continue, however without luck so far. But as always, hope is a great driver :).
Thanks once again for this wonderful trip down the memory lane.
Rgds

One more false alarm concerning the full length song. Some persons claim to have it, but no one has uploaded it till date.

nahm ji,
Thanks and congratulations to you for having done an excellent job with a novel theme of A to Z of Rafi saab.
I can understand the kind of efforts you must have taken spending or rather investing lot of time in doing this exercise.
You have given us a feast of a variety, ending appropriately along with Diwali. It was nothing short of sweets of NAVRASAs,thru songs.
I may not have commented on most songs, but surely,I was keeping a track and enjoying the songs.
Thanks once again and hoping for yet another more interesting and a novel Theme…
