‘V’ song in this series is from the obscure film ” Lutera “(1955). Only the excel sheet of Rafi songs is having some information that Music Director is C. Ramchandra and lyricist is Rajendra Krishan. The sheet also has the info that it is picturized on Naseer Khan and Jabeen. As per the songs listed on myswar.com, there are total eight songs in the film. And this is the first song to be posted here.

We saw a few Rafi-Lata duets in this series. This is third one after these two songs Eid ka din tere bin hai pheeka & Lagi hai aag dil mein aankh se aansoo baraste hain .

As per the list there are more than 400 Rafi-Lata duets (including those with chorus). Around 250 of these songs are of the period before the

1964

. There is no gap in the songs as the songs recorded prior to the rift between Rafi and Lata were kept flowing through 65, 66 and 67. 300 of these duets are already posted in the blog.

The duets of these two are legion in the hindi film music history. I cannot claim to be a know all in this matter for not knowing all of the duets by these stalwarts. But as a fan of the songs of these two, I cant stop myself from listing my favorites here. Fortunately the excel sheet is a god send , and this is too good an opportunity for me to miss.

So here is the list :

I am aware that the list is too long, for a favorites list but I am unable to remove anymore songs from these. Originally I made a list which was some 110 songs. In an attempt to shorten the list, I have removed some of the songs which are recent acquaintances and kept only the old favorites. So this is not a comprehensive list but a shortened one. It is no surprise that all of those songs are posted in the blog.

This exercise has taught me that one should not attempt to list one’s favorites Rafi solos in a post or even Lata solos. Which I have not done, nor plan to do, so nothing to worry about here.

The song form ‘Lutera’ 1955 which is presented here must be on the favourite’s list of some, because it has an endearing quality, for the tune as well as lyrics. The absence of video might be a blessing in disguise, for such a melancholic song. Earlier I used to think in my usual opinionated way that C. Ramchandra is a highly overrated music director. Yet knowing some songs like the first song posted in the series Apni chhaaya mein bhagwaan bithha le mujhe and this duet, he is an underrated composer, at least by me. Naturally, if one doesnt know the best work of a composer, how can we rate anyone accurately.

I leave it for the connoisseurs of hindi film music in general and C. Ramchandra fans in particular to decide if this haunting melody is among the best duets composed by C. Ramchandra and also among the best duets of Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar.

This song also happens to be the 700th song of Rajinder Krishan is the blog as a lyrics writer.

Song-Veeraan mera dil hai dil ki bahaar aa jaa (Luteraa)(1955) Singer-Rafi, Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics

kahaan hai mere dil ki duniyaa
kahaan hai kahaan
mohabbat ke hote hain tukde jahaan
wahaan hai wahaan

veeraan meraa dil hai ae ae
dil ki bahaar aa jaa
sun le pukaar meri ee ee
dil ke qaraar aa jaa

chhaayi huyi hai zaalim
taqdeer ki siyaahi
tera pataa na jaane
majboor hai ye raahi
dil ro ke keh rahaa hai ae
bas ek baar aa jaa

veeraan meraa dil hai ae
dil ki bahaar aa jaa

manzil ki raushni hai
awaaz ka ishaara
himmat na haar raahi
mil jaayegaa kinaara
aankhon mein muntazir hai
teraa intezaar aaja

veeraan meraa dil hai ae
dil ki bahaar aa jaa

tujh tak pahunch hai mushkil
taqdeer darmiyaan hai
taqdeer raah degi
ulfat agar jawaan hai
dam bhar ke waaste hi ee
kar lenge pyaar aa jaa

veeraan meraa dil hai ae
dil ki bahaar aa jaa
