“Panchaayat” (1958) was directed by Lekhraj Bhakhri for Tasveeristan productions. The movie had Raj Kumar, Jabeen Jaleel, Shyama, Pandhari Bai, Sundar, Manoj, Kuldip Kaur, Kanhaiyalal, Nazir Hussain, Leela Misra, Daisy Irani etc in it.

Seven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.

Here is the eighth song from the movie. This song is sung by Lata. The song is picturised as a sad bhajan on a lady whom I am unable to identify. My guess is that she is Pandhari Bai. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify her.

Shakeel Numani is the lyricist. Music is composed by Iqbal Qureshi.

Song-Main gun gaaun tera (Panchaayat)(1958) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shakeel Numani, MD-Iqbal Qureshi

Main gun gaaun tera aa aa
main gun gaaun tera
tu hi Shyaam mera aa
jale jyot jag mein ae ae
mere ghar andhera aa aa
tu hi Shyaam mera
aa aa
tu hi Shyaam mera

naseebon ki maari
kahaan aur jaayen
kahaan aur jaayen
ye sansaar ki laaj
kahaan tak nibhaayen
kahaan tak nibhaayen
zamaana na samjhe
jo hai haal mera aa
jale jyot jag mein ae ae
mere ghar andhera aa aa
tu hi Shyaam mera
aa aa
tu hi Shyaam mera

bhalaayi ke badle mili hai buraai
mili hai buraai
bani main tamaasha
hui jaghansaai
hui jaghansaai
samajh mein na aaya
ye insaaf tera aa
jale jyot jag mein ae ae
mere ghar andhera aa aa
tu hi Shyaam mera
aa aa
tu hi Shyaam mera

Beautiful song. I am listening this song after decades!

The actress on whom this song is picturised appears to be Pandari Bai,.
but not 100% sure.

She is Pandari Bai from South

Oh, what a splendid devotional song! Hearing it for the first time. It feels so heavenly. Thanks for this upload.

She also sang 2 songs in Bahar-1951 first film of V’mala

Atul ji,

Thanks for this beautiful reminder, hearing it after such a long time. Sublime melody from Iqbal Qureshi.
