As a tribute to Hansraj Behl on his birth-day today (19 November 2013 ) here is a melodious song by Suraiya from the film ‘Resham’ 0f 1952. The lyrics of the song is by Prem Dhawan. Not knowing much about this film, I request knowledgeable members to cast some light.
Hansraj Behl (1916 – 1984) was born in Ambala, British Punjab, and received his early education in music from Pandit Chunnilal. He became a successful music director after India’s independence. Hansraj moved to Bombay in 1944 to have a go as a music director in the film industry. He had to struggle at first, but after a year, in 1946, he got his first film, Pujari. He became well known only after the release of “Laakhon Mein Ek” and “Chheen Le Aazadi”. The song, ‘Moti Chugne Gayi Re Hansi’, sung by Shamshad Begum and Mukesh from the movie “Chheen Le Aazadi” was especially very popular. Hansraj Behl worked on four films in 1948, namely Chunariya, Mitti Ke Khilone, Pardesi Mehmaan and Satya Narayan. His music from the movie Chunariya was highly appreciated, especially the song ‘Dil-e-Nashaad Ko Jeene Ki Hasrat Ho Gayi’ sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Hansraj gained recognition with the song ‘Haye Chanda Gaye Pardes Chakori Yahan Ro Ro Mare’ in the film Chakori. His song ‘Jin Raaton Mein Neend Ud Jaati Hai’ sung by Mohammed Rafi in Raat Ki Raani was a super hit. Noted playback singer, Asha Bhosle made her Hindi film debut when she sang the song “Saawan aaya” for Hansraj Behl’s film Chunariya (1948).
In 1950-51, Hansraj Behl had popular songs with great singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Geeta Dutt and Suraiyya. Songs of the movie, “Kisi Ki Yaad”, became very successful immediately after the film released. ‘Koi Mujhko Na Bulaaye’ and ‘Tadapta Chhod Kar Mujhko Kahaan Tum Reh Gaye’ both sung by Geeta Dutt and ‘O Jaane Wale Ye Kya Kiya’ by Mohammed Rafi were very popular. He made excellent musical films like Khaiber and Dost, in 1954.
Hansraj Behl composed music till 1969 but his films were either stunts or fantasy films which hardly gave him scope to compose good music. His last hit song was in 1965, in the movie Sikandar-e-Aazam; ‘Jahan Daal Daal Pe Sone Ki Chidiya Karti Hai Basera’, sung by Mohammed Rafi.
Song- Ham dono jahaan apne ulfat mein luta baithhe(Resham) (1952) Singer- Suraiya, Lyrics- Prem Dhawan, MD- Hansraj Behl
Lyrics
ham dono jahaan apne
ulfat mein luta baithe
ham dono jahaan apne
ulfat mein luta baithe
manzil to bhi kho baithe
saathi bhi ganwaa baithe
bas yeh hai kusoor apna
bas yeh hai khata apni
bas yeh hai kusoor apna
bas yeh hai khata apni
bas yeh hai khata apni
ik geet muhabbat ka
ham bhool ke gaa baithe
ham dono jahaan apne
ulfat mein luta baithe
jo dil ka sahara thhe
woh tod gaye dil ko
jo dil ka sahara thhe
woh tod gaye dil ko
woh tod gaye dil ko
jo aankh mein baste thhe
woh aankhen chura baithe
ham dono jahaan apne
ulfat mein luta baithe
roti hain tamannaayen
aur hansti hai barbaadi
roti hain tamannayen
aur hansti hai barbaadi
mat poochho kahaan tak ham
khud ko hain luta baithe
ham dono jahaan apne
ulfat mein luta baithe

Thanks for this nice post to remember Hansraj Behl ji on his birth anniversary, and for this nice melodious song too. Great lyrics by Prem Dhawan ji.
‘manzil to .. ‘ should be ‘manzil ko bhi kho baithe’.
I think i am hearing this song for the first time or may be heard many years back on radio (all India radio-urdu service).
thanks a lot Sir ..!!
